Does a new CPU comes with pre-applied thermal paste? or is it in a baggie?
preapplied to the base of the stock cooler
Can I swipe of with say a butter knife and put it on an after market cooler?
not recommended at all
Can I swipe of with say a butter knife and put it on an after market cooler?
I think aftermarket coolers come with paste applied
They do? I'm getting the hyper 212 plus and it supposedly comes with pre-applied thermal paste.
not preapplied but it does come with a tube of paste which is better anyway because you get enough for a couple of installations
I am hoping to get me some ram for my laptop so I can run some games. The problem is, I found it from one company.
1GB, 200-pin SODIMM, DDR2 PC2-5300 memory module Part Number: CT1363871 Module Size: 1GB Package: 200-pin SODIMM Feature: DDR2 PC2-5300 Specs: DDR2 PC2-5300 • CL=5 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR2-667 • 1.8V • 128Meg x 64 •
This times two will give me 2 GB and with 256Mb stolen for the graphics card(that dirty little thief!), I may be able to run World of Tanks finally!
It's the current generation 17 inch. My college requires them so i spent my scholarship money on it. Specs: 2.2GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7 8GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB 500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 RPM AMD radeon HD 6750m 1gb If this were a PC i could probably run it no sweat. My only concern is the fact that i have to run two operating systems at once and a resource intensive game.
Isn't boot camp a dual boot system? You wouldn't be running both operating systems at once, just Windows. The only concern would be hard drive space, although 50GB is probably enough if all you want is Windows + BattleField 3. Then when you're done playing, you just reboot into OS X

I guess i'll do that.
Is there a way to make KDE's Device Notifier automatically run a command on a device when you tell it to "eject" (unmount)? Apparently iPod Classics need to be told it's OK to be unplugged first, which is accomplished in Linux with `eject /dev/sdc`. Alternatively, any way to convince KDE that iPod Classics are CD drives?
not preapplied but it does come with a tube of paste which is better anyway because you get enough for a couple of installations
Really? You have this cooler?
Really? You have this cooler?
I have had it before, and it comes in a tube. I have a 101i right next to me and it's basically a baby 212, it comes in a tube, too. I thought I told you this before!

While we're talking about thermal paste, is it all more or less the same or are some better performers than others?
People seems to like this Arctic Sliver.
While we're talking about thermal paste, is it all more or less the same or are some better performers than others?
http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Thermal-Compound-Roundup-August-2011/1360/5 the test can't be 100% accurate so a couple degrees variation is expected in the results so for the most part they're similar, not enough difference to worry about as long as you're not getting some unnamed crap off that turns out to be toothpaste
Wait. Wait. WAIT. You can TOOTHPASTE as a compound? I understand oil, but TOOTHPASTE?
Yeah, toothpaste. You should try it.
Did you look at the chart in the link? Mr. Sarcasm?
Toothpaste probably wouldn't work well over time.
You need to change it after like 3 days, because it will be like cement after that. Somebody in FP tested it too. So toothpaste could work but only temporarely.
I'd use cooking spray before toothpaste.
Ha ha. You learn something new everyday.
Someone should use their own spit so they can be as one with their computer. Would be pretty terrible for the CPU though.
Use your own blood for water cooling.
Put your heart in the reservoir.

I want to sell my current pc setup on craigslist, for enough money to be able to at least build a much better system, or a really nice 3d system. How much do you think I should list this thing for? It runs just about any game @ 1680x1050 on high(highest res. my monitor supports). My monitor is a LG 22' widescreen (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824005116) it was like $350 brand new and is fucking sexy. My tower has. RAM: 3gb DDR2 Videocard: BFG 9800gtx+ (oc edition, it's the fastest 9800 you can buy) PSU: I upgraded myself It's a Thermaltake Purepower 500w HD: 1x 288gb 1x 186gb Processor: Intel ® Core™2 Quad Processor Q6600 • 2.4GHz, 4MB L2 Cache, 677MHz Front Side Bus I also threw in two extra fans for cooling and everything runs at about 40c. So I'd rather not sell my monitor but uhm, if I can get enough for a 3d system then I will have too. So what a good guess on how much to list this thing for?

PCs running in 3D need to be really powerful so that they can actually run at the required framerates, I think, and I don't see you getting more than 500
