Oh okay.
Backup your data, and put in the windows install disc and install. Then put the backed up data back onto the hard drive.
My desktop is 4 years old, but it's in a good condition... Why don't you just check which of your hardware are causing problems and replace them... It will cost much less!
The old saying is buy a really really good desktop today, and in 4 years it should still be going strong
Getting a new PC is always a good option, but you should still use the old one for simple things, possibly a server or something similar.
I hate leaving my new computer on overnight. Using the old one is an excellent idea for long process that take hours or even days to complete.
$400 is more than enough for a decent computer. $400 can get you 4770/athlon II X2 2.8 ghz *OCable to 3.2 ghz*/2 GB DDR3 1333 mhz
yep.
My faithful 4 year old laptop passed away last year...
1gb ram... 2.13ghz Pentium 4... 128mb Mobility Radeon x600...
:crying: She was faithful to me...

Currently rocking my 2GB RAM, 1.86GHz Core Duo, ATI Mobility Radeon x1400.
We've had some good times, some better times, and some not-so-great times.
Still going good so far, but then again I reformat about 5x as much as regular people. Although my HDD is dying... Probably a result of the formats... :saddowns:
My 2001 Dell will soon be hitting the curb. I don't know how I'll ever get by with USB 2.0 and SATA interfaces.
I still got my 3GHZ prescott P4 1GB ram and the original radeon 9550 AGP (my x1650 pro died :saddowns:)
It has served me well for 6 years

Take the hard drive out and wipe a pure iron bar wrapped in a silver coil with lots of loops over it, don't forget to put a large current through that silver coil. /electrojoke
Anyways, I find that a linux distro run from a LiveCD great for formatting.

I got a used computer from my school (they were replacing computers in a classroom and we got permission to take the old computers).
3GHz P4, 512MB of RAM, some random Intel GMA. I've used for it as a server for months, now I just installed a GUI on it and I ordered some cables to connect it to my TV, going to play movies and games through an emulator on it.
I have to say that the Pentium 4 is great. Sure some engineer can point out a million flaws in it, but it's still useful.
My computer is about 4 or so years. I am now feeling it is near time to retire it. Over the years it has slowed and recently I suspect it is being ate up by viruses ( my uncle got me into using limewire :smithicide: ). I am looking to buy a new desk top or laptop. I would like it to be able to run a game like tropico 3 smoothly. And I also am low on cash so it will have to be kinda cheap. maybe under 600 usd :unsmith: ? I would really appreciate any help on this.
Well to fix your lime wire problem go to start up (Usually in start/allprograms/startup)
and delete the limewire symbol. That should help, or Ctrl+Alt+delete And kill the process.
My starting pc was about 600 (give or take) Here some part listings:

About ready for an upgrade? but yeah you can still kick some ass with ass that.
I run a 3.16 ghz duo, 4 gigs, gts 250 probably don't give a shit but Meh...
Just because its a little old people don't mean it can't run!!!
Unless your 1.6 ghz, 516 ram and nvidea card that runs everything on 5 frames.
Then you need to let that little pc die with some honor...
install crysis and let the poor thing see heaven.
"No mom, It's my computer, I'll take care of it"
SAY WHAT?? Mi computer is 7 years old. Fuck getting a new one. Use it until it can't run anymore. Squish it out until all the juice is gone :)

Your 7year old pc can run games from today decently with no problems? What are the specs?
One of the 250GB HDDs in my PC is 6 years old and it hasn't failed yet. 4 Years is nothing especially for non-moving parts.
Reminds me of when i got my first Computer... :3:
My mother walked in, Put it on the Table, and said "So! Whadda ya think!"
We've been though some tough time, i think she's be formatted... um... 5 times? 6 even, i don't know but my little brother likes to play flash games on random websites so we had all kinds of malicious things on there...
made in 04 and she is still runnin good, getting a little slow... but runnin good...

i really need a new computer i have a feeling this thing is gonna die on me
Maybe people should stop making more graphically demanding games.
I play a lot of DOS games. I like games that were good because of their story, not flashy graphics.

Format C:\ and install a fresh installation of XP on it, and your computer will last another year for you to cough up more money and buy a decent computer.
If you know what you're doing, construct your own using components from a vendor site like newegg.com
If you don't know what you're doing, buy a premade Dell. It may be more expensive, but It'll save you anger later.

BEFORE you go about buying a pre-built, seriously consider building your own. No $600 pre-built is going to be able to play tropico 3; if it could, it would be barely. You can build a much better system yourself, it's very easy. just go to the pc building section and have someone get the list of parts for you. it's dead simple to build it once you get it, their are tons of guides and videos online to help you.
