I don't know, but everytime I see a post of you, you always seem to bash other peoples opinions. On topic: If the source engine will be available on linux, I'd immediately switch to linux as my main OS.
Same. I'm almost pretty much done with Windows anyway, since I pretty much only play HiB games, Desura and Minecraft.
But how will it be avaible? As a make script that grabs the binary files and installs them on the system, or as .rpm/.deb/pacman packages (since steam is closed-source)
If the source engine will be available on linux, I'd immediately switch to linux as my main OS.
Nah, if source sdk gets ported with fully working hammer editor on linux, then more people would move away from windows.
Nah, if source sdk gets ported with fully working hammer editor on linux, then I would move away from windows.
Fixed I think a LOT more people use steam for gaming than for modding
Broken I think a LOT more people use steam for gaming than for modding
FTFY. He said 'more people', not 'most people', and he's completely right. There are definitely people who produce content on Windows because they have to.
I really really do hope this happens...Even if the Steam library doesn't have a lot of Linux support, it'd just be nice to use Steam chat and have a nice game manager...
FTFY. He said 'more people', not 'most people', and he's completely right. There are definitely people who produce content on Windows because they have to.
Oh! I mistakenly thought he meant that more people would go because of an SDK, not because of games. Sorry
I would use the SDK and Hammer in Linux if it were more stable than it's Windows counterpart. Even if that means taking a slight performance hit.

They're both *NIX systems and both use OpenGL.
He said they're discussing a Linux port.
Which means that they probably have the means to do such a thing. That's quite a bit for a non-valve title to come out and say.
Which means that they probably have the means to do such a thing. That's quite a bit for a non-valve title to come out and say.
It probably means that, but it's not confirmation that there's going to be a linux port, it's confirmation that they're thinking about it.
Yay, finally.
Just when I thought there was no reason to put Linux on my new gaming build...
good
I think they shall do something like "choose "steamapps" folder" for Windows/Linux dual-boot systems. I don't want to re-download my games
I think they shall do something like "choose "steamapps" folder" for Windows/Linux dual-boot systems. I don't want to re-download my games
Well you could move them over to the other hard drive?
I think they shall do something like "choose "steamapps" folder" for Windows/Linux dual-boot systems. I don't want to re-download my games
Symlinks on the Linux OS. Slightly hacky, but it should do the trick nicely.
I think they shall do something like "choose "steamapps" folder" for Windows/Linux dual-boot systems. I don't want to re-download my games
you don't have to if you dual boot right now go to your file manager and you can access c disk without a problem (you can run the games thru wine too)
Symlinks on the Linux OS. Slightly hacky, but it should do the trick nicely.
you'd have to mount the partition first.
Symlinks on the Linux OS. Slightly hacky, but it should do the trick nicely.
People did this with Steam through Wine as well. I did as well, and it works pretty much perfect. Just make sure to mount your NTFS partition (Windows partition) with read+write+execute permissions.
you'd have to mount the partition first.
Jesus, just edit /etc/fstab already. Besides you'd still have to mount the drive with the steamapps folder on it, for the Linux installation to be capable of sharing it with the Windows installation.
I think they shall do something like "choose "steamapps" folder" for Windows/Linux dual-boot systems. I don't want to re-download my games
Steam is coming to linux and you're bitching about this?
Steam is coming to linux and you're bitching about this?
I would practically pay for all of my games over again if steam came out for Linux.
I would practically pay for all of my games over again if steam came out for Linux.
Being the trolls that VALVe are, they probably will anyway. :v:
Oh the glory.
You could just back up the games using the backup manager Steam has built-in...
You could just back up the games using the backup manager Steam has built-in...
That would be quite a hassle, compared to symlinking or just copying the steamapps folder.
just shut up and reinstall the games for fucks sake.
