What is so bad about having a AAA game publisher coming to Linux? Just think of all the games and stuff that would get ported over! [editline]18th June 2012[/editline] Like Metal Gear Solid 2 and uh, Toontown?
While this is a step in the right direction, I won't be switching yet. I play a lot more than valve games

Honestly though, if Bethesda ported their games to Linux, I would be fine just playing Valve games, Bethesda games, and various indie games. I would fully drop Windows.

This is really good news, and perhaps when the driver support gets better I'll switch forever.
Hopefully this will push other programs to join the move. Such as FRAPS and Camtasia.
Hopefully this will push other programs to join the move. Such as FRAPS and Camtasia.
Why would you want those terrible programs on linux? linux has glc for game recording and ffmpeg for desktop recording. I've made a wrapper script to make ffmpeg easier to use as a desktop recording application. I even have it upload to my server while recording, letting me do black magic like this: [vid]http://bit.ly/Lqe1Ty[/vid]

Think you could post that script you have because I'm kind of lazy.
I remember trying to do something like this a few years ago with RecordMyDesktop, but it never really worked. Think you could post that script you have because I'm kind of lazy.
I actually have an AUR package, but it requires lots of configuring so i never bothered to post it anywhere. Oh and I call it screenwin. http://farmpolice.com/content/texts/PKGBUILD I'll post some instructions here: Step1: Setup and configure pulseaudio. (Required for sound in ffmpeg) Step2: Setup and configure apache OR mount a server into your filesystem somewhere. (Required for file uploading) Step3: Setup and configure surl (AUR link shortener) Step4: Install screenwin. Step5: Edit /usr/bin/screenwin.sh and change the File= and Link= lines to match into your server directory and hostname/ip specified in step 2. (There's two of them!) Step6: Edit the LinkShort= lines to use your favorite link shortener site. (There's two lines!) (Currently uses my bit.ly account, I don't mind you guys using it, but I'll get to see anything you screenshot or record) Step7: Run screenwin.sh video in a terminal, then open pulseaudio's pavucontrol panel. Go to the recording tab and ensure ffmpeg is recording from the Monitor 1 Sink. (Or whatever audio source you want to end up in your videos). Step8: Run screenwin.sh video again, then paste the link in your webbrowser to make sure it works properly! Step9: Bind your keys to screenwin.sh video and screenwin.sh image and have fun! Step10: If step 7 doesn't work, add naelstrof on steam and he'll help you out. :u Info: It conflicts with scrot because the original scrot cannot take selection flags (-s) when started in the background. All I changed in the source was made it turn the cursor to a cross when active, and disabled keyboard input. (It can no longer cancel shots, but it starts up properly in the background). Replacing scrot with screenwin will not alter your ability to use scrot.

Is just me, or in the video "Introducing Source FilmMaker", in the making of meet the medic scene, where the screen splits in 6 parts, aren't they running lxde? It's hard to see but i think they are. Around 2:09 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zri1c_If6Ic&feature=player_embedded P.D: Gimme crates already

When the camera gets closer I'm pretty sure it's XP or 7 with a black and yellow glass theme or something.
Cant wait for steam's full release for Linux!!!
Game said in an email that it will be ready by the holidays. But this is Valve-time, so here's to hoping...
Any "sources" on this, or did you just happen to recieve an email about this?
He may be referring to this Phoronix article: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=MTExMzA

gayben
Well, i got the entire summer to wait and see tf2 crash in wine. gabn pls
Don't worry, we only have to wait 6 months tops for a native client. Well, 6 months Valve time. So approximately 24 and a half years. :suicide:
hopefully it comes out before the end of the year.
I just started up steam and I got a request to take a system survey, now is our chance boys. Break their survey with your wine installs! Let them tremble in fear of the amount of Linux users! but seriously it appears they expected Linux users as it detects my wine version. Let them know we're here!

Was it just a random one or for source filmmaker?
Was it just a random one or for source filmmaker?
It was just random for me, popped up when I started up steam. I just assumed everyone else had received the survey as well, excuse me.
I had one too.
This was on Phoronix. Gabe specifically mentions Linux during an interview at E3. http://www.pressfire.no/spesialer/e3-2012/5345/Hva-er-det-Half-Life-sjefen-ler-av
Well, two non-Phoronix sources are great. Two non-Phoronix sources that have Gabe's voice are better than Phoronix text. One non-Phoronix source that has Gabe's UNIX beard confirms it.
