No no. Get one 2GB stick now, and one later.
The difference between single-channel and dual-channel isn't very much and won't affect him drastically.
Besides, you can't even run triple-channel on a socket 1156 motherboard, which would make three single 1GB sticks ridiculous.
oh, havent noticed, but i meant to say 2x2GB :)
I recently built an i7 860s system, and the stock cooler is definitely loud enough to be annoying. I haven't checked exact temperatures yet, but I've heard quite a few reports of Lynnfield i5/i7 coolers running rather hot. Also compared to how far you can push Phenom IIs/Core 2 Quads/Nehalems on their stock coolers, the i5's stock cooler is rather disappointing.
Aren't the i5 and the Core 2 Quad stock cooler kind of the same?

I thought the Core 2 Quad cooler was larger, but I may be thinking of later LGA775 P4s instead.
