I just built my first computer and got done with downloading all the drivers and checking that every part worked well. I downloaded TF2 and before loading up the game I upped the fan on both of my 5770's to 60% so I could get an idea of a ratio of fan speed to gpu temperature. I maxed out all of the settings (except motion blur and vertical sync) and ran it at max resolution (1920x1080, run in a window to better switch between game and CCC) and loaded up a game. I start playing a bit and go to check the status of my 5770's in Crossfire to find that the card in the primary PCIe x16 slot is receiving all of the activity and getting about 65 degrees Celsius at 60% fan speed, and that the card in the secondary PCIe slot isn't receiving ANY activity and is at 37 degrees Celsius with the same fan speed.
I made sure Crossfire was enabled, and it was. Why isn't my second GPU being used when I have Crossfire enabled? How do I fix this, or is this normal activity because the game isn't graphically demanding enough to have to use both cards and instead of splitting it it just throws all the load onto one card?
Would only having one CrossFire X connector between the two cards instead of using both make a difference, or are you only supposed to use one anyway?
I thought you had to have two connecters for crossifre?

I'll try that and see if it resolves my issue.
Edit: Nope, didn't change a thing.
Do you have to turn on Crossfire in the actual game? I know you do in CoD4, for example.

There isn't a special setting for it in any of the tabs in "Options" on Team Fortress 2 anywhere I look.
It could be an issue with the current drivers.

You have to have two.
As far as I know, source doesn't support multi-gpu. Not SLi anyways, I'm pretty sure crossfire isn't supported, either.

...I should have gone with a 5850. x_x
There should be an option somewhere in CCC to turn Crossifre mode on, or at least somewhere that tells if CF is enabled or not.

Naaa the crossfire 5770s beat the 5850. Also one 5770 should get you plenty of fps for source games.

I stated in the first post that I made sure that option was checked.

Not if you OC it and if you get a second 5850 a year later. >_>;

Well why don't you overclock the 5770.

When I'm getting 130 FPS with the max possible settings on max res in full screen mode, I really don't see a point. My concern has less to do with getting more FPS and more to do with making sure that crossfire is actually working.

Are you using 2 crossfire connectors?

Yes, and still only one card gets the activity when playing TF2. I don't have any non-source games to test it on yet, though.

Try a futuremark test.

Well they just stopped selling the 5850 so you wouldn't be able to. Anyway one 5770 will be decent enough in source 130fps is fine :geno: , the crossfire will show in other games, have you even tried other gaems to check?

I already said that I don't have any non-source games to test crossfire on, and likely won't until Christmas. -_-
Also, Sapphire 5850 is available on Newegg right now:

This is why I don't like multi-GPU setups.

Ignore ph0ne he is a troll also download futuremark and see if it loads the second 5770.

Try Nexuiz, Open Arena, Alien Arena, Urban Terror or some of the other games on that page and see if CF works on them.

Downloaded it, ran it, and because it's an unregistered version it won't tell me the details of my computer. It doesn't say anything about crossfire anywhere though and in the results of the 3DMark run it only listed one GPU...
Now what? =\

no, your "problem" was that you claimed it increased temps and heat for a 0% increase in any situation
but oops I forgot that UR NOT TROLLEN

He be banned. Also did did you try some of the open source games. Finally try switching the cards.
I'm not sure if it's entirely relevant, but I read sometime ago on AMD forums that crossfire won't work on Directx 9 when in windowed. See if fullscreen would fix it. (This works for me on 4870X2 at least)

This is very interesting, considering when I talked to him he said he had CrossfireX logo in the top left or his screen in full screen, but not windowed, and his FPS went up. Also, it's funny you joined in June but posted first in December xD
Yeah I've run some tests myself a while ago. I noticed activity on 2nd GPU actually existing when in fullscreen (Crossfire logo appearing as well indeed) but it didn't in windowed.

Some proof about it there, not much insight though. It's an old post but still relevant it seems.
Also yeah, been here for quite a while but never found the urge to post much ; )
