• Final Build Check

So I just sold my old PC, and I'm just making sure this new build is good to go before I buy it. CPU- AMD PII 550 Heatsink- Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro 7 Motherboard- GIGABYTE GA-MA770T-UD3P RAM- 2x2GB 1333 DDR3 PSU/GPU Combo- 5770 + OCZ ModXStream 700W Case- Cooler Master ATCS 840 Optical- DVD Burner HDD- Caviar Blue 320GB OS- Windows 7 Total price comes out to ~$900. Am I all set as far as compatibility and "bang for buck" is concerned?
What's your budget? [editline]08:32PM[/editline] What I mean is, how much does that total to?
I don't know how good that PSU/GPU combo is, but you could easily save some grain by cutting the PSU down to a less powerful one (but that's only if your combo deal isn't cheaper or equal). If you don't want to overclock your CPU, you can cut the aftermarket CPU cooler. In addition to that, you might want to look into getting a tri-core or maybe quad-core if you're really smug. Just my opinion, yo.
Maybe $50 or so over
And better. Get this, OP.
300 Illusion is ugly as fuckkkkkk. [editline]03:47PM[/editline] OP add promo code EMCMMLP22 if you get the Illusion.
I'm definitely going to buy a full tower case, and I would rather not go with micro ATX.
Better mobo [editline]08:51PM[/editline] Bigger HDD (1TB)
Is 500W playing is safe? Also, I've gotta shut down and haul this thing to this guy so he can buy it. Be back later.
500W is fine as it's an OCZ, not some gay logisys shit
Is is smarter to go with a quad or dual core if I'm just going to be gaming?

Dual core it is, then. Thanks. [editline]10:23PM[/editline] Also, the guy let me keep the hard drive. I can't just throw it in my new computer and expect it to work, right? I'll have to reformat... but won't I still keep all my program files and whatnot?
Dual-Core: + this (5850) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814103085 I'd still go with the quad though :3:
Dual core it is, then. Thanks. [editline]10:23PM[/editline] Also, the guy let me keep the hard drive. I can't just throw it in my new computer and expect it to work, right? If you reformat you lose everything though, but you don't have to.
;18190973']Yeah you can just throw it in and it'll work. If you reformat you lose everything though, but you don't have to.
Really? That's very excellent. That saves me like $175 on an OS and hard drive. Thanks.
You will need to reformat.
Dual core it is, then. Thanks. [editline]10:23PM[/editline] Also, the guy let me keep the hard drive. I can't just throw it in my new computer and expect it to work, right?
More and more games are starting to use quads.
Are they? But don't you think a 3.1 dual core will perform just fine? So will I have to reformat? I'm confused.
You will need to reformat.
No you won't wow will you shut the fuck up.
Are they? But don't you think a 3.1 dual core will perform just fine? So will I have to reformat? I'm confused.
It's not all about clock speed. But yes that is a good dual core. If you want you can get this quad: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103706
;18191060']No you won't wow will you shut the fuck up.
You can't just put a HDD from one computer into an entirely new build and everything will run OK with windows all activated. It's going to either refuse to boot or Bsod on boot, there's like a 5% chance of it working.
;18191197']
.... How mature. OP, if they're different chipsets then you are likely to get a bluescreen on boot.
;18191197']
... [editline]06:47PM[/editline] He should go for the quad i posted. [editline]06:48PM[/editline] Save some money on the ram: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231274
Alright so given I get a new hard drive + OS, I'll just get an MSI 5770 and that OCZ ModXStream 500W. Is that all good? [editline]10:50PM[/editline] Jesus I'm getting ninja'd. That RAM is the same price.
Alright so given I get a new hard drive + OS, I'll just get an MSI 5770 and that OCZ ModXStream 500W. Is that all good?
You can use the old hard drive, but you'll need to reformat. You will need a new OS as the old one will refuse to activate.
You can use the old hard drive, but you'll need to reformat. There's really no need to DBAN unless you have child porn or something on there :3:
Nevermind, I'll just put Windows 7 on the old one. You can just delete a partition in the format process, yes? No I don't have CP. That's gross.
