i am extremely computer illiterate
so i am asking
how much could i sell a AMD Phenom X3 8750 BE for
and what should i buy to replace it
you could probably get a good $80 if you market it right. For a replacement, it depends on what your budget is going to be.
something hopefully better than it for whatever i get, if that's even possible
well what motherboard do you have? some don't like taking power hungry CPUs
if you don't know, use something like speccy to find out

i think it's a gf8200a elite black series mobo
keep in mind i'm completely computer retarded, so i probably got something wrong
I would personally go for an AMD Athlon II X4 640, but only because I'm not familiar with that motherboard and don't know how it handles the 125W processors like the Phenom II X4 955 (which would have been my next suggestion).

his phenom x3 is probably more powerfull than an athlon 640, but I'm not sure...

If it's unlocked, then it certainly is, but then it can discussed whether it's an x3 or not.
Keep in mind everyone, that this is a Phenom I (not II).
out of nowhere my dad gave me an intel core 2 duo, 4 gigs of ram, and some msi motherboard. a new case too.
so i guess i'm done with this thread.
he also gave me a 250w (i think) HP psu though
should i get a new one or what
Yes.

Its the original phenom, they are made using the 65nm process.this means that it is am2+ and will only support ddr2 ram.

okay. what brand and what wattage or whatever?
I have the same MOBO.
I think you should keep it.
Here's the spec sheet of my system;

This MOBO has a ton of potential, I think you should keep it.
ECS is very good at upgrading the BIOS on this board, and the latest BIOS update adds support for Phenom II X6 processors.
Here is the Newegg page for it

Assuming you're keeping your videocard(and not getting a more powerful one), I'd suggest a 380W-430W PSU. That is fine for a basic system like yours(AMD or Intel w/9500GT). You are more than likely looking at well under 200W total power use at full load. 650W and up are for people using demanding single cards or crossfire/sli. Make sure you get a PSU putting out 28A or more on the 12v output, that's important. I like Antec PSUs on a budget.
I would sell the x3 for $80 Try to get $90
and to replace it I would get a Phenom II x4 955 (Or just wait for bulldozer and do a complete upgrade)
the phenom II x4 925 would be cheaper than the 955 and would put less stress on your system?
