I haven't played it for a while (few weeks, bout four). Booted it up today, all fine, tried to open tray via the menu and just heard a grinding noise. Tried again a few times, both with the menu and the actual button, with the same results.
Any fixes, or is this a case of "take it into the shop"?

Okay now for something that may be slightly helpful, my friend had a similar problem and he managed to open up the xbox and even then he couldn't see the problem. Looks like you'll have to take it to a shop, it sounds as though the gearing in the disk tray could be broken/ not meshing correctly

You have access to the manual eject button of you remove the faceplate it's a paperclip sized hole and you stick one in (non slim).
