Could anyone tell me how to change my DNS locally?
In this test, BT 30 GB is 3% Faster
Seems like a waste of time for me then - My ISP's servers are the fastest anyway and it wants to move me to a very slightly faster version of that. I'm with BT in case nobody noticed.
open dns gives me 26 percent apparrently
Could somebody explain what NXDOMAIN Hijacking is? I've been seeing it in a lot of the results. And it doesn't sound very nice.
I'm pretty sure it's stuff like instead of getting a 404 page on a domain that doesn't exist, you get another (usually ad filled) page. I think some American ISPs do it.
DNS doesn't affect download speeds. All it does is turn an address (www.google.com) into an IP address (74.125.95.104) [editline]12:23PM[/editline] Could somebody explain what NXDOMAIN Hijacking is? I've been seeing it in a lot of the results. And it doesn't sound very nice.
NXDOMAIN hijacking is basically "this idiot tried to go to a site that doesn't exist, redirecting to our site with shitloads of advertisements"
Now what do I do?
Uh, DNS doesn't affect your speed, it just affects how much time goes between you type in the url and it gets turned into an ip you can connect to.
So what you're saying is that it doesn't affect your bandwidth.
So what you're saying is that it doesn't affect your bandwidth.
Not in the slightest. Also OpenDNS was suffering NXDOMAIN hijacks, sounds worrying :ohdear: I switched to my default and a secondary one from BT anyway.
In this test, Your current primary DNS server is 102% Faster than 194.239.134.83 Wait, so that means I should stick with OpenDNS?
I win. :smug:
this was before, the last test i took, this is after i set my dns server

Come on guys, don't make yourself look stupid. DNS only resolves names to unknown domains, so it only makes first connection (for I am not sure after how long time first) to destination faster. It doesn't speed up repeating queries to single destination (for example browsing Facepunch), and doesn't speed up downloading at all.

You probably got your internet upgraded within the year.
One of those is from last year. You probably got your internet upgraded within the year.
Hah I didn't even notice. :v:
My DNS runs under my desk as a footrest.
So? Change the DNS settings on the laptop itself and it will override whatever settings are currently being used by the router.
So? I'm assuming this tool works per location meaning it finds the best ISP based on your connection in the specific area you're currently in. If I go to one of my other places of residence then the DNS reliability would change with the location.
My test just stops at "218 records available in test pool". What's going on?
It says my ISP's dns are 25% faster than the second best, openDNS
UltraDNS and OpenDNS are 97% faster than my current one.
So...what is best one?
So...what is best one?
It depends on where you live.
In this test, BT-70 GB is 32% Faster And I was using OpenDNS. OpenDNS always pissed me off with its NXDOMAIN hijacking anyway
64% faster. Definitely seems faster, but not 64%. I was using 4.2.2.1 - 4.2.2.4 before.
