Jailbroken iPod Touch 1G 8GB with firmware 2.2.1, used RedSn0w. Got it from a highschool kid on Craig's List for $170 back in May. The free apps in the App store + Cydia apps are all I need. Pirating apps, however, is wrong and too much effort to get something for free.
Stick with the free section + Cydia.

How is opening installous and downloading the apps to much effort? It's just as easy as downloading them on the appstore, except that you need to choose your download location.
