Best Buy Sells Egregiously Crappy, 9-Year-Old Hard Drive As New, Then Refuses Refund
Yeah, it's WD's fault...they clearly accidentally put a ancient hard drive from a different manufacturer in one of their premium product boxes to try and make a quick buck.
Because Best Buy is defiantly gonna repack a hard drive...what actually happened I bet is someone returned the thing with a shitty hard drive in it and kept the one the guy wanted
No shit?
That was alluded to in the OP.
I didn't know anybody actually bought computer parts at Best Buy :-/

I rarely go there. For convenience only.
What if it's a magical hard drive? You know, like from those shops that are there seemingly out of nowhere and then just a brick wall the next day after you've bought a dragon and tried to return it because it ate your grandmother?
Has he actually tried it yet? Maybe it controls space-time.
O.o Are they really that bad?
Fry's = Good but overpriced :(
Best Buy = SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT!!!!!!!!!!
Hmm? the Frys near me is cheaper than Newegg in most cases.
That guy should sue the crap out of them
Except the courts are full of old people who probably think that it barely makes a difference because you only need 64 kilobytes in the first place.
Best Buy is fun to go in.
Heheheh

No shit Sherlock, really? I never would have guessed that!
Point is, Western Digital has nothing to do with the issue and owes the customer nothing.
I read that Geek Squad will steal your computer parts if you take it to be repaired :downs:
That actually happened to my best friend's laptop. They stole a gig of RAM from him, he noticed the difference immediately after getting it back because he had one 1 gig RAM chip/card/whatever, and a 256MB RAM thing that came with the laptop when he bought it.
Ah, the old Quantum Fireball. I still have a couple laying around here in some boxes.
Even if it is or isn't Best Buy's fault, it's still a shit store, and for no reason should you buy computer components there.
Luckily we don't have best buy in australia... We have Dick Smith Though, It's hard to get PC Parts there and when you do you get shitty 3 year old products, and when that happens and you return it BZZT, wadda ya know, it goes straight back on the shelf, No marking of new or old they don't tell you anything when you get it you realize it's fucked up (they don't check working or not) and you know, the people are complete dicks, you ask what speed the laptops processor is at they just say "Iz gud bcuz iz cor too duuuuuoooh", Well what speed is it "IZ COR 2 DUOH OS YU NO IZ GUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Just tell me what speed it's at! "IZ 2 gigabytes", And what is that in human? "2 terrabytes", In human please "Huuuuh? gt OUT U NOT 'LOUD 'ERE ANYMORE!" And now he's fired for incompetance, Unluckily It won't happen to every other person who works there because there all console wanna be's (as in there all those dicks you play with on halo 3 on live, if you're dumb enough to play there) Ya, We don't get shit products, We get brainless employee's, you know I'm going there tomorrow to ask for service, I'm bored.

Ah, fuck I forgot to spellcheck my post, Fuck it i'm to lazy.
Raptors aren't very good harddrives anyways, they are small in GB capacity, stupidly expensive, and crap out faster than 7200 drives. they also vibrate more, they are louder, and heat up enough to warp cases with improper cooling.
I'll take a Seagate 7200.11 any day.
I wonder if someone bought an old hdd and got a new velociraptor?
It's company police. It's completely plausible to assume someone is trying to get a refund on a product they bought by saying they found the wrong product in the box.
Obviously someone stole the one in this guy's guy and replaced it with an old crappy one, but how does the company know that he isn't trying to scam them?

The only thing I'll give you there is somewhat poor price:performance when compared to other similar drives. Although the VR is definitely a nice space improvement when compared to the older Raptor drives. It's also much quieter than the older Raptor drives, and it runs a hell of a lot cooler too. Not to mention it isn't going to just 'crap out' if you've got a normally functioning drive.
