Yeah, you allow others to use a small portion of your connection (BT FON, my local version limits it to ~20% or 2Mb/s total, the lowest) in exchange for using other's connections when out and about. Really depends on you whether you find that worth it or not, but IMO auto-enabling it is just a shady way of inflating the number of hotspots.
Comcast's doesn't use your allocated bandwidth and you don't even have to have it enabled to use others which is nice.
Can anyone here who is a developer for a small/medium sized company tell me how important (if any) is math and physics in your job. I'm just curious because people keep telling me that if I don't know math (not basic math but something a bit more advanced like calculus) I won't be able to ever land a job. It's really not that hard to learn all that, it's just tedious, especially since we have to use some old russian books if we want higher grades
Yeah I haven't really used math but I wouldn't say it's unimportant - math skills like analytical thinking are important even if I don't directly use them for math and physics. That's also not taking into account the wildly different circumstances programmers might find themselves in. I'm sure plenty of software engineers out there use that kind of stuff every day. That said, the fact that I'm required to take physics as a part of my CS degree is...odd, IMO.

I work in the mortgage industry at a company with about 2 dozen developers. The most complex math we do is algebra and I've basically forgotten 90% of what I've learned in college (and I only graduated this May). It mostly depends on what the company does, for example you'll need your math if you're trying to write in a physics engine for a game engine. But for traditional software, probably not. Analytical skills are much more valuable than raw understanding of math. Woo education in America. The best part is I still forgot all that shit too! :v:
I have a real MIPS/Pentium decision to make; do I get an Amiga 500 or C64 breadbin (has floppy drive and original box)? I only want to spend money on one because vintage computers don't get all my money.
I vote for the Amiga. Harder to find parts for but way more capable.
I vote for the Amiga. Harder to find parts for but way more capable.
Though if he's only collecting casually, the C64 is more recognizable and probably easier to get.
My Thinkpad got fucked. I had a USB dongle for my mouse in the port and it got smashed in. Now none of my USB ports work. [T]https://i.imgur.com/eN0oQuW.jpg[/t] I'm gonna check if I can get this returned. Otherwise I can buy a USB expansion card if the broken USB ports are not a hazard. What other things could I attempt?
Which thinkpad?

Try contacting Lenovo for support, you may have to send it to them to get it fixed.
Speaking of thinkpads, mine came in today and it has a UK layout KB. How did I not notice that in the ebay listing. Looks like it's time to hunt for a new one.

Currently doing a mass install and other than the keyboard it seems to be solid. I know it's sacrilege but I'm not a fan of trackpoint so far. Trying to force myself to use it to see if it's an acquired taste.
Having an enter key so big a stormtrooper could hit it is not an acquired taste, it's just wrong and a waste.
Which thinkpad?
T540p, got it as a refurb. Alternatively I can use USB ports on an express card. But I want to be sure that this broken port doesn't cause any shorts whatsoever.
[t]http://u.cubeupload.com/tratzzz/IMG20170921004004.jpg[/t] Both keyboards are small but both have enough room for a proper Enter key. You in the US keyboard world are weird. I have seen plenty of keyboards with no <|> button too, how often do you even need that outside of quoting people on weird message boards?
Having an enter key so big a stormtrooper could hit it is not an acquired taste, it's just wrong and a waste.
I'd say the same about the huge lshift key cannibalising enough space to lose a key in comparison to the ISO layout Don't get me wrong, i can totally see the virtue of a flat enter key, but not when you compensate for the saved space by making it wide as hell and then making the \| use the rest of the space for some reason
Well rip me, even after messing with a few bios versions, can't push past 2133mhz on memory. Only one of the beta's would but that was unstable as hell. Wonders of Ryzen, guess I gotta wait for Gigabyte to push out a few more.

What other things could I attempt?
Just speaking from anecdotal experience with many, many, many cases I have dealt with lenovo support: If it has the standard warranty on it, whether they require depot or just send someone to replace a part usually depends on how you word the ticket "User spilled water on keyboard" "Smashed USB ports" = nono (After cleaning the computer to make it nice and presentable and fixing any cosmetic damage) "USB ports do not function" "Keyboard keys do not register" = yes [editline]20th September 2017[/editline] Half the time they don't think twice even if something has minor bodges or cosmetic defects on the inside, because their technicians are too busy to take their time making sure everything is "official" for repairs so they don't think much of it when there's a piece of scotch tape or a stripped screw here and there
By new one you mean just a US layout keyboard right?
Well yeah. Interestingly though I only paid $50 for the laptop and a new keyboard is $30. I might just get used to using this one. I have it set to US in windows so my muscle memory is working just fine for the most part. Otherwise though this thing seems real solid. The i5 is running Win10 nicely.

And gotten better RAM with specific modules that were going to be easier to overclock. I run it at 2800MHz but I still can't get the CPU to overclock to 3.8GHz like what others got.

If I could get it to do basic graphics like drawing lines. The Amiga is completely new to me, so don't have clue what to with it. Does it run BASIC? The issue is that I don't know if has a mouse and what you do if the OS disk stops working.

Corsair is apparently notorious for certifying their memory using Samsung dies and switching to hynix later for cost. Ryzen loves Samsung B-Dies, but doesn't like Hynix.

It doesn't have the dies Ryzen likes and DOCP only does so much. I probably could mess with it manually to get it to work higher tho.

Those Ripjaws should be good though.
