Apparently all 3200 CL14 certified are Samsung B-Die. Those Ripjaws should be good though.
That's what I thought. According to https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/62vp2g/clearing_up_any_samsung_bdie_confusion_eg_on/ the ones I got have "8Gb Hynix M-Die".
I literally wouldn't have thought RAM modules would actually affect such overclocking performance, aka I should have read into it more. And gotten a better motherboard because I wanted more SATA3 connectorsss but I don't want to get some PCI-E card for it.
Never mind, both computers just got sold. Fuck this
It's impossible to get decent deals in this backwards country.

Almost impossible to get good deals on classic equipment anywhere on the internet. Getting lucky a a yard sale or having contacts is the only way to get good prices on things these days.

Well technically, anything over 2400mhz on Ryzen is considered Overclocking. And depending on how many Dimm's and how many ranks, that drops. Like Dual Rank four dimms is like 2133mhz only.

Both keyboards are small but both have enough room for a proper Enter key.
You in the US keyboard world are weird. I have seen plenty of keyboards with no <|> button too, how often do you even need that outside of quoting people on weird message boards?
Pipe is useful in programming too.

For all of his bad points, he was never really that bad of a poster. We lost a good one today ;_;7

I do wonder how much of an increase in overall performance I'd get with the RAM running at 3200MHz. Well, I bought the RAM on Newegg and couldn't exactly return it without restocking fees so I decided to stick with it and felt that eventually support will get better and that 2800MHz is a hell lot better than 2133MHz.
Having an enter key so big a stormtrooper could hit it is not an acquired taste, it's just wrong and a waste.
Except... Standard UK keyboards have 105 keys, US keyboards 104 so... can we still win here?
EDIT: FlagDog is lying to you, I'm British. Just in the US at the moment.

Should be noted that Micron is even worse than Hynix. Basically Samsung > Hynix > Micron.
The worst part is there's no consistency anywhere. Take the G.Skill Ripjaws series, for example. Depending on the model you could get any of the three even if they're all the same capacity and speed rating, and there's not much indication other than price.

On the AMD subreddit, lots of people recommended a specific TridentZ Gskill kit. 3200 CL14. People had perfect luck with that on my board. So going to order that tomorrow. Selling my current 32GB kit to a buddy for a decent discount.

I have that kit. After a BIOS update, 3200MHz C14 using the XMP profile.

This is the one to get? https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/sykwrH/gskill-memory-f43200c16d16gtzb
I found the 32GB kit https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/3CRFf7/gskill-trident-z-32gb-2-x-16gb-ddr4-3400-memory-f4-3400c16d-32gtz but it's basically $100CAD+tax more than my existing one, and it's out of stock.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/717kwv/faster_2x16gb_bdie_dimms_for_x370_prime/ use the info as you will.
Just a hunch, but something about this doesn't seem quite right.

I wish people hadn't bullied him so much. He was a real cool guy and I really liked his info on old tech. It was fascinating. People(especially mods and that hard drive guy) went way over the line on the harassment.
I'll miss you, Pentium.

So turns out my original research was a load of wank when picking out memory because another dig into this shows Corsair does 5 different fucking versions of this one type of memory. 1.x~3.x = Micron, 4.x = Samsung and 5.x onwards = Hynix
What the actual fuck, how the hell did I end up with original stock.

Yea they're improving memory a fair amount over time. I couldn't run over I think 2400 for the first couple months, now I'm at 2800 without much fuss. I could boot to 2933 now but crashes.
Well a BIOS update came out a few days ago so I'll see how it goes with the DOCP RAM timings at higher than 2800MHz. I probably will have to play with the timings manually to get anything to work any higher. Also the more I read about my B350 plus board, the more I will remember for future builds to not skimp on the motherboard. And to research more. It's not a bad board and I don't think I'm at the limits of the board yet but if overclocking is a million times easier with a better motherboard, I'll take it.
B350 itself is fine as a chipset, just limited on connectivity. Some B350's push like 3600mhz. Some boards matured more quickly than others for memory.
The Crosshair 6 for instance quickly seemed to have good memory support. But you pay for it.
Looking at either a Lenovo Y520 or Y720. Same i5 7300HQ, the main difference is the GTX 1050 vs 1060 and build quality is better on the 720, but the 520 is much lighter.
I'm looking at it to replace my 2011 Vaio CB I got in June 2012, so this new machine has to last another 5 years, non of the hinges breaking off. Only has to play Overwatch and Doom 4, (don't give a shit and about future titles) and edit GH5 videos, don't care about a 4K screen on it.
Someone at uni today asked me if I was in software (he was in design).
Had a copypasta Django server for his web portfolio and had some issues with css.
Like the guy obviously knew some of his shit, html, css.
Said he had some issues with a strip of logos and their positioning, as they were stuck to the bottom of the div.
We didn't really fix the issue, I guess he'll remember what to do though.
Basically, the divider was moved out of a divider for a blog, which he didn't need
but at the end of these dividers, their styles gave them a bottom padding etc.
He didn't know about the element inspector showing css and bounding boxes
Other than that he and his friends were cool
How much does RAM speed even affect performance? I remember that the difference in 1333 and 1600 was small and only a few wanted 1866 out of theirs.
Ryzen is heavily impacted by RAM speed. Intel it doesn't matter so much.
Something something infinity fabric.
