I might actually give that a try with my Lenovo T61.
Oh boy do I have a fantastic story for this thread if they ever fix their shit. (At the moment it's so comically broken for such a large company I'd hate to draw attention to it.)

I've already emailed them and pointed it out. I'll post it here wherever they get around to fixing it. It's not the sort of thing I would want to be responsible for if someone vandalized it.
I'm on the hunt for barcode scanners.
Anyone have experience with cordless Motorola Symbols? My biggest concern is they are advertised as using bluetooth and my experience is bluetooth takes a long time to link when coming out od sleep mode.

Oh that sounds like my old workplace.
One computer with internet that also happened to host the inventory database. The girl I worked with at the time started browsing tumblr and a bunch of other altnews websites on it and we ended up with a cryptovirus infection on the database computer.
Also half the employees had their personal banking information on that computer I later learned.

Gutted laptops make totally viable desktops.
When I replaced the motherboard in the laptop I gave to my sister I got her an i7 and kept the old i5, eventually got the BIOS unlocked with HP's help, plopped it on a A7E34AA dock and used it as a guest computer. I had 2 64GB SSDs taped to the SATA connectors, one on an adapter cause the DVD sata plug is silly. 8GB RAM +SSD + i5-3230M = zippy internet browser. I had to zip-tie a heatsink to the chipset because it originally used the laptop chassis via thermal pad, but other than that it's just an 8470P board on a dock.
I gifted it to a friend who only owned a Chromebook and he uses it today
I was about to buy an SSD and do a hackintosh on my Ryzen desktop but then I remembered you can't steam stream from macOS hosts yet and that's a pretty important part of my current setup, so RIP that.

I have this Lenovo ThinkCentre with an i5 2400 in it, that's just collecting dust, I could use it, if I mount the PSU on the side As for other parts I I'm planning on using this old Ducky cherry blue keyboard if I can replace the LEDs. It uses a USB cable, so it's ideal, I'd also like to put an SSD dock on the side make it look like an old cartridge interface. There is a guy which made a kick starter for a case called the x500, but I have no idea how to contact him.
Anyway, I do appreciate the replies, with any luck I'll get this project going.

Does anyone here have CCENT/CCNA experience? I'm about to take the ICND1 100-105 exam next week after having done NetAcad work with PTs and real equipment for the last year and going through the Cert Guide book. I feel pretty confident in my knowledge of all stuff, but I've never sat down for a Cisco cert exam so I don't really know what to expect out of them. Any advice?

If you've got any crooked or rickety tables you can use them to construct a shim.

I worked at a major production company a few years ago. Back then we used Datalogic powerscan scanners for both 1d and 2d, wired and wireless. But it really depends on what you need. The Datalogic ones were used for the normal stuff (ie good quality codes on non-reflective surfaces). Ocassionally, if we had something that was very hard to read, we would buy a cognex (I think it was DataMan 8600). They are quite pricey, but they will read just about everything. Even a pin-stamped QR code on a shiny stainless steel cylinder (aka highly reflective and warped surface).
Both Datalogic and Cognex comes with wireless and it worked really well.
We also had some Motorola symbol, but the old guys always said bad stuff about them. Though I never really got any experience with them.
Don't know if that helps.

Know your sub-netting. Cisco looooves to base questions around sub-netting.
Boy I love coming into the office and logging in to a full Outlook inbox because the idiot offshore employees are replying all to an email that was accidentally BCC'd to the entire company.

Wait shit there are at least 6 unique emails that were BCC'd to the entire company. Today is going to be great.

I figured it out. It's not BCC. Someone figured out the email address for the distribution list for the entire company (or at least our sector) and put it in for an IT helpdesk ticket. 6 times. Because of course it's driven by your email address and not our Active Directory.

The one (wired) Motorola Symbol I have will scan everything I can throw at it. I now am looking to find replacements for our other chinesium wireless scanners.
Many years ago someone paid bottom dollar for our current scanners and I want to fix that.

I made the mistake of looking up how much my job is worth on Glassdoor and holy shit I'm making less than half what I should. How do I even broach the subject of a massive pay raise to my boss? I rather like my job, but literally cannot survive at the fast-food wages they pay me.

You have to convince them your job's requirements have surpassed what they originally hired you for. Or else they're just going to complain about you wanting more money for not doing anything different.
That or convince them they really need specifically you, and start applying elsewhere and then bring up the offers you've gotten.

Sadly the best way to increase your pay is to job hop every few years, start applying elsewhere and if you get offers you can then use those as a basis for a pay increase
But note, any meeting you have that starts with "I have been applying for other jobs" can end in you being escorted out of the building by security, so only do that if you're prepared to no longer be working there
[editline]26th September 2017[/editline]
If what you say is true, and money is the only thing you're concerned about, you're never going to convince them that you need double the money you're currently making just by asking
Only a threat to leave and being truly indispensable will see that kind of increase

Don't be discouraged if you fail it the first time. It's got a big first time fail rate but a pretty good rate on subsequent attempts.
Terrible advise in here, as soon as you negotiate by saying "more money or I walk" they will offer you more money and start looking for your replacement. Easiest way to get rid of your job.
