Sadly the best way to increase your pay is to job hop every few years, start applying elsewhere and if you get offers you can then use those as a basis for a pay increase But note, any meeting you have that starts with "I have been applying for other jobs" can end in you being escorted out of the building by security, so only do that if you're prepared to no longer be working there [editline]26th September 2017[/editline] If what you say is true, and money is the only thing you're concerned about, you're never going to convince them that you need double the money you're currently making just by asking Only a threat to leave and being truly indispensable will see that kind of increase
It's a tiny company of about 50-100 people, there ain't no security. I'm actually the security if it comes to it, lol. I do on-floor IT support, mid level backend programming and development, new product research, and network configuration. My current rate was supposed to be probationary and instead of giving me a raise after the probation period, my boss instituted a system of cash bonuses, where he'll assign a bonus upon completing certain tasks. The problem is most of the time there's no bonus for most tasks, and even when there is it's like $20 for a three-day task. It's BS. My boss is a really nice guy but I feel like he seriously undervalues me, as I do a vast amount of varied tasks for the company. I am indispensable and I do consistently shoulder and complete more responsibilities on a regular basis. I should make more than I do. I've just been manipulated and undervalued and acquiescent. That isn't going to fly any more. I'm not even looking to double my money to market value. I'm just trying to get a bump to a living wage instead of the slave labor rates I get paid currently.
Terrible advise in here, as soon as you negotiate by saying "more money or I walk" they will offer you more money and start looking for your replacement. Easiest way to get rid of your job.
If they do that, then you aren't really valuable to the company in the long-run. Sounds about right as far as the business end of it goes though. They aren't going to be actively looking for replacements when you haven't shown signs of quitting/making noise. But now that you have, they have to keep you happy and working until they can find a cheaper version of you, so they give you a bump. If they just said no, they risk you not working during the new job search and they are out a guy.
Best way to get better pay, switch jobs. Even if you feel comfortable there, I don't think I would bring it up unless you were irreplaceable.
I always feel that if I get in trouble for some monitoring that wasn't made crystal clear is happening its not really a place I want to work anyways.
yeah i'm really uncomfortable right now. I need to negotiate for better pay too. Switching jobs isn't viable for me since no other job can accommodate my schedule as well.

Installed the new EVGA 1080 Ti FTW3 ICX 12Ghz... yatta yatta. System wouldn't boot for a good 30minutes, turns out I guess I loosened a cable to my second SSD so the UEFI was confused where to load windows.
Boy I love coming into the office and logging in to a full Outlook inbox because the idiot offshore employees are replying all to an email that was accidentally BCC'd to the entire company. Gave it a new fan and a fresh application of Arctic MX5 thermal paste. It's silent, even putting your ear directly next to it, you can barely hear it, lol The SSD is a Crucial M4 128gb. Currently using it in my laptop but it's fucking fast. Now I know why people hype SSDs all the time! Benchmark of SSD. It literally boots in under 10 seconds, it's stupid fast! Every part marked (purchased) are ones that I've gotten for free, except mobo but my mom let me use her credit card for it. BTW I'm not an extremely high end gamer, I'm 100% fine with a GT 1030. The most demanding game I'll play is BeamNG Drive, and the other games I sometimes play is IL2 Sturmovik 1946, Flight Sim X, or Starbound. I have no intention in playing any AAA games for quite a while now, due to none of them currently being interesting at all to me. Hiring isn't a breezy process, especially for small firms - they'd rather retain employees and bump their pay slightly than go through the process of having a vacancy and trying to fill it for the same below industry pay. Asking for a raise is always a risky proposition, but acting like a company is going to cut your head off for even asking is retarded.

It'd be easier to mass produce and probably better for the environment in the end compared to massacring a couple walnut trees to get thin slices I can haphazardly glue together in other words I'd just make the $300 cryorig/lianli Taku instead: [t]https://www.kitguru.net/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/01_taku.jpg[/t] [t]https://www.kitguru.net/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/02_taku.jpg[/t] [t]https://www.kitguru.net/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/03_taku-1.jpg[/t] you can even access the motherboard I/O from the outside, which you can't with the volta
So just got a new Asus PA328Q 4K monitor and it's pretty good, except that I'm a bit OCD when it comes to displays and I've noticed that white is more orange on the left side of the monitor. Can I get it calibrated so white is uniform, should I RMA it or just do my ignore it?
[t]https://i.imgur.com/lg5L20x.png[/t] What do you guys think about this case?
Asking for a raise is not as threatening to quit which is what I responded to.
Threatening to quit ("Here are some offers I have received for comparable positions") and truly being indispensable is really the only leverage you have in a wage negotiation in the US. You don't get large raises out of the kindness of their hearts, they need a financial/operational reason why giving you a raise would be a benefit to the company. I don't know what employment laws are like in the EU in general but here in the US you can be fired for just about any reason, or even no reason at all with zero recourse besides a few months of unemployment benefits. Loyalty to a company is rarely if ever rewarded, you're essentially held hostage by the difficulty of switching jobs while they try to underpay you for the skills/experience you've developed while working there. Honestly if I were him I probably wouldn't bother and would take the best offer I can get and put in my 2 week notice

If you tell them you're getting offers and they counter-offer, 80% of the time that counter offer is to keep you on staff long enough to replace you with someone who costs less. Unless you work in a small company setting, any big corporation is going to drop you like a sack of of wet flour the moment you don't look like you're okay with what they're paying you. If you get a better offer, take it. Loyalty in the corporate world goes to the highest paycheck and no further. Pledging any allegiance to a company past the obvious legal implications is foolish and will only serve to leave you in shock when they dump your ass because its in their best interest.
While I worked in a factory during the summer, one guy quit on the spot. Said he wasn't happy with the wage and walked out of the door. The CEO was so mad that he simply quit with no negotiatons. She said she'd rather pay more to these people or at least get a notice before getting an unexpected situation where a product is not made until a new person is trained to make it and so on. This was in a small factory of around 100 employees though, might not be the same in bigger workplaces. Wasn't even that bad, probably going back next summer because the pay was great (for me at least) and working 6-14 was pretty good as I got to enjoy the sunshine too.
See the rub here is I actually really love my job, and my boss is one of the nicest people I've ever met. Looking on the outside, it's one thing if he sometimes took the team out to lunch to be nice, but letting employees host personal projects on company resources or running personal purchases through a business account seems like a really bad idea. You'll need to find out what is most important to you. When I got over feeling bad for leaving my past job even though it was a video editor for a record label. (I mean so cool right), and moved to Elgato I tripled my yearly salary. I did have lunch with my replacement last week and also my buddy who ended up being the guy who hired me at the label. And he actually explained the CEO has gone into panic mode making sure everyone is happy and taken care of because they don't want anyone like me leaving again. Even though I gave them about 18months of lead time of me looking for other jobs. "I AM LOOKING FOR A JOB TO REPLACE THIS, OK!?" is what I told them back in like December of 2015. Even jobs and management you love won't change until you do.
Hmmm but now I love the town I moved to for my job but I am in such a special area that I would HAVE to move if I changed jobs. And I currently reall dislike the one I have. And the worst: it's for ethical reasons.
