Fucking christ Microsoft. Created a VM in Hyper-V under FCU and the defaults is to enable dynamic memory. Here I am wondering why my PC is chugging so hard with anything after an hour and bang all 16GB is gone. Previously dynamic memory wasn't turned on by default so what the hell!?!?
Always been that way for me. Found it out when setting up an exchange vm for school. All the other vms on there gave me a big "fuck you" real quick.
comcast plz
I had this happen to me with spectrum. It would drop to 0.01Mb/s for no reason
Displayport is a pain in the ass to convert TO but not FROM. Overpriced active adapters often necessary.
-snip- I misread that actually.
Displayport is a pain in the ass to convert TO but not FROM. All of the computers I have right now, save a positively ancient piece of crap, have DP or Mini-DP out. And for that, it's basically the best connector around.

I remeber a case of a new ceiling mounted projector being installed, employees being given new laptops with DP and the only cable to that projector were DP. Trouble is, a good chunk of them were used to their old laptops that either only had VGA and/or HDMI and thus still used those instead. Needless to say they ended up installing a VGA cable too, and some employees tended to use their own DP or MiniDP adapter to vga adapter out of habit with the VGA cable with their fancy new laptops. You want to ensure the successful replacement of a standard, then it better be easily and cheaply compatible both ways for smooth transition instead of invoking botched solutions.

[editline]21st October 2017[/editline] And I only have to hook a monitor to my server whenever I fuck up esxi
Lots and lots of cheaper laptops only have HDMI out unfortunately. That said HDMI to DP is pretty cheap and easy.
Lots and lots of cheaper laptops only have HDMI out unfortunately. That said HDMI to DP is pretty cheap and easy.
Even some higher end laptops only have HDMI out, it's a shame.
Now that Thunderbolt is royalty free and USB-C/DP/Thunderbolt can all work off the same port, hopefully we'll see that change.
Lots and lots of cheaper laptops only have HDMI out unfortunately.
I have never seen a conference room or TV with DP in HDMI is cheap
I have never seen a conference room or TV with DP in HDMI is cheap
Cheap but you have to pay royalties to implement it.
Worth noting USB-C also has HDMI alt mode. In the future we might be seeing cheap laptops with just USB-C :v:
I have never seen a conference room or TV with DP in HDMI is cheap
I don't think I own a single display with a DP input (granted my monitors are like 8 years old now), and I'm sure I'm pretty far from the minority in that
Cheap but you have to pay royalties to implement it.
Supposed to become royalty free next year, But I'm still concerned whenever or not Intel would permit it being implemented with AMD or ARM based processors.

i used to be a big proponent of USB-C but i don't like that it tries to do everything but falls flat of doing everything in about half of implementations - USB-A male to C female is out of spec even though technically possible safely - A lot of chargers give no indication as to what they can charge or support aside from just not working - Many "subpar" implementations exist for devices due to cost savings leading to tremendous confusion as to what the port does - Thunderbolt 3 piggybacking off of the physical standard - Devices getting rid of useful ports because they expect type c to pick up the slack - Ports made to bad physical tolerances when they are the only port on the device, so if the port breaks then the entire device is down - Tremendous amount of not useful cables and adapters produced out of spec, but useful adapters (i.e. USB3.0 header + power to 3.1 female with pd ) not produced due to spec or manufacturing limitations just make some features mandated and call them usb 3.2 and 3.3 instead of this complicated bullshit goddamn
Definitely some growing pains, but like you said hopefully things will improve with future revisions. Overall I think the future of USB-C for everything will be quite nice. We're actually thinking of getting almost 20 of a certain monitor at work because it has USB-C in the back, which'll be great for the MacBook Pros some employees have, and the future Mac Minis which will probably have USB-C (and maybe only USB-C) once Apple finally gets around to releasing a new model :v:
Being optimistic, yeah it's possible to be improved on over time, but on the other hand my household currently uses at least 5 different USB quick charge standards.
Worth noting USB-C also has HDMI alt mode. In the future we might be seeing cheap laptops with just USB-C :v:
I mean displayport just has dual mode. My new Latitude 5480 has USB C with DP
comcast plz
Thats what happens to my internet every time it rains heavily because theres a ~20km >10GHz microwave backhaul in the path to my ISP.
The real reason why we're going to see type C used for everything: A lot easier to hit price breaks when you're just using the same part everywhere. Also, I didn't realize those connectors are that cheap, I never looked before. Jesus.
So customers gotta pay out big time for adapters instead. :why:
Until the devices on the other end start having USB-C inputs, which is already happening thanks to Apple with their decisions regarding the MacBook Pro 2016 and onward Besides, the majority of the adapters are passive thanks to the alt modes, so they're cheap anyway. The real problem is just carrying them around.
So customers gotta pay out big time for adapters instead. :why:
That's just a transitional thing though, temporary. With it being implemented, adoption otherwise will rise.
That's just a transitional thing though, temporary. With it being implemented, adoption otherwise will rise.
A decade at best isn't "temporary"
Actually implementing it kind of adds up:
I bet you can get that pricing down to ~2.7USD each if you go directly to TI. Which isn't actually bad considering how much you get out of it. I'm looking at paying $2.463 per op amp right now because fuck me for not buying 2.5k at a time right? (They're $1.163 each if you buy a 2.5k reel) To be fair, the specs on the op amp are fucking ridiculous so I'm happy to pay for it.
A decade at best isn't "temporary"
It's literally the same process replacing every common technology. I still need a VGA or DVI adapter at times when someone has some old as fuck projector I need to connect to.
think the clean-up on my laptop got botched the cpu hits 3-5°C higher than the gpu in most scenarios, if it gets more hot it ends up heating up the gpu think there wasn't enough thermal paste on the cpu, i remember i ended up putting too much on the gpu, which i had to take off
