Wow, OnePlus support spun the paypal claim in their favor in the ticket close message: "We have issued a refund as per your paypal request".
Yeah no, PayPal forcefully took the money out of your account and issued you a strike you morons.
Scripted helpdesk is there for a reason, but it'd be nice if they were trained so they'd escalate if you obviously sounded like you've already done all the scripted steps
A friend had a tech come around to diagnose internet problems, when he was looking over his setup he asked what one of the adapters was for
"Power over ethernet injector"
"Right, I'm just gonna assume you know what you're doing and the LAN is fine, I'll start doing line tests"
That's where I think I'm helpful in my role right now. I do copy some of my own messages if it's telling people to make a ticket, but atleast right now I try to read every message clearly and write out a good reply that shows I'm listening. If someone is seeing BlueScreens or garbled video, clearly... I can't do basic troubleshooting for them and ship them directly over to our ticket system for our higher level people.
idk, I try to be what I'd want to have in support.
Yeah, there really needs to be a "look, I know what I'm doing, just tell me the things that your checklist requires so I can confirm I've tried them, so we can escalate this to level two as fast as possible".

I'd agree but people are notoriously overconfident in their ability, and then you'll have someone escalated to level two who says your system is broken but really it's been sitting in a box for 6 months and they haven't even plugged it in yet.
It's been so long since I've done a summoning.

You can be sure I'll deescalate you immediately and transfer you right back to tier 1 if you haven't finished triage.

Some early computers used 6-bit "bytes", since 6 bits is enough for a single-case Latin character set. This went all the way to architecture - 12-bit or 18-bit integers, and 36-bit memory lines. Many of the PDP computers worked this way. Elements of this persist to this day - the data on a traditional magnetic stripe card, such as a credit or debit card, is encoded in a 6-bit character set.
As a joke, there is a standard Unicode encoding for 9-bit nonets and 18-bit words, intended for use on the PDP or UNIVAC.

Back when I had timewarner I had a nice spiel that got me to t2 support right away
[editline]17th July 2017[/editline]
Basically along the lines of "Look, I'm a network engineer for an ISP and I'm pretty sure I already know what the problem relates to, can I get escalated to tier 2 because I've already done all troubleshooting I can on my side"

My phone's camera is broken so I had to take it with my tablet. Turns out Microsoft never expected you to hold something literally an inch away from the Surface to take a picture.

I just think Microsoft never expected people to actually use the rear camera, because, I mean, really?

Seeing tourists take pictures with tablets is like witnessing someone wear crocs outside their own home.
Got my refund for the rack already. Thank god that's over.
Ordered a Hard drive dock from Amazon, got a bluetooth speaker instead. :incredible:
Update: Amazon refunded me a few hours after I sent it back today, ordered a different drive to avoid a second incident. With a bit of luck I can start my DVD/Blu-ray ripping spree tomorrow.

Has she once referred to her computer as "facebook machine"?
Has she once referred to her computer as "facebook machine"?
Well I mean it's not that bad but she has hemiparesis from a brain AVM and uses Facebook a lot to connect with family and her AVM support friends. There aren't many good reasons to get her to switch off Facebook.
There's an ongoing spat between my sister and I but it's a long story, the short of which is that she called my fiance a bitch so I haven't talked to her since February. She lives with my parents so that makes connecting with them difficult at times.

They're going to send you weekly rack shipments for life by the sounds of it
So coil whine on my PSU is getting so bad it was the most noisy part of the PC with constantly changing frequency, at some point i could have probably recorded it and invented a music genre.
At the same time, my GPU stability under load was getting worse and worse, artifacts on the screen during games, boosting the fans a LOT helped a little-bit, but at some point even that did nothing.
Eventually resulted in failure to boot windows, right when the driver kicks in, it would do a wierd instant shutdown that's seemed different from the normal unstable AMD CPU, or thermal stuff.
Sometimes it would manage to boot, sometimes it would manage to crash the driver then recover and boot that way, sometimes it would hang on post. BSOD during driver install, but another time it pulled through just fine.
Outside of windows installs ... the GPU was working fine in Linux and UEFI, or when it's running on the basic driver in safe mode.
I bought a "Be quiet! Pure Power 10 700W" because i had 15 minutes to pick from the few PSUs i could get here tomorrow.
I don't have high expectations of it fixing the GPU issues ... but I really hope it does. Because i really don't want to buy a GPU right now.

Already cleared it up. It also took all day to put the rack together in my breaks through the day.
Thing looks nice.
So remember when I was talking about how my family's home desktop keeps on hanging and I got an SSD to fix it? Well it works without the older spinning hard drive plugged onto the motherboard. Turns out changing out the PSU fixed everything.
