Which is why I only use Facebook when absolutely necessary.
AKA when communicating with those idiots who would somehow manage to suffocate on a piece of software.
Oh hey, got some content for you fuckers.
So I've been working with a point-of-sale system for a contract, as you may have heard. I just noticed a pretty weird quirk of it.
First, if you leave it off for multiple days, it has to run the "end of day" routine for every day being skipped over. Not that weird, right? Gotta make log files for empty days to avoid some weird code in the log parser, I guess.
Well, that's where the second bit comes in. For some reason, one of the things done at end-of-day is a full system reboot. I haven't touched this one in a week and it's taking like half an hour to fully start, because it's booting, logging in, starting the POS app, grinding on EOD (literally the technical term!), and then rebooting to start all over again.
It's running an embedded strain of Windows 7, and seems to boot off a CompactFlash card, given how long it's taking.
I really wonder what bug the full-system-reboot is supposed to work around. Because that's the only reason I can think of for it.
Remember! Always check the monitors at your Goodwill. You never know what you'll find. I just brought home a perfectly good Samsung 22A300B 22" 1080p LED lit monitor for $23. It's not an especially exciting monitor but considering it was $170 brand new not too long ago, how can you pass that up? Newegg image because that's how mint it was.

I have a co-worker who just goes to thrift stores and flips things like that on ebay
I've heard you can find a lot of good computer appliances at places like goodwill from him but I haven't tried it yet.
I haven't actually been to one but I'd imagine there's always those good finds.

Getting that thing out of storage after a month must be fun, lead time 1 week? :v:
I personally haven't had much luck with thrifting. Seems that everywhere I go, people have already grabbed all the things of actual value, which makes sense.
Now, university surplus sales on the other hand...
I once got an unreal anthology box for 1 euro
[sp]I don't have a drive so I can't check if it even works[/sp]
Managed a stable 3.6ghz on +0.0125vcore, but I hit 78c, so yeah, none of that sweetness for me.

What a lovely fucking useful error message!

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Looking online the solution appears to be "lol reinstall windows" for fuck sake I've had this install for less than 2 weeks! :why:
Outlook at work is down: Check.
Skype just went down too: Check.
My personal dedicated server in Atlanta just went down: WHAT THE FUCK THAT'S NOT EVEN A WORK SERVER
On the upside I just got notification that they shipped me my diploma so I just nuked the server I used for my senior project. So now I have one working fresh Ubuntu LTS DO droplet.
Fucking topping at 78c, now I'm back to stock voltage @ 3.4ghz, 68c
In other news, just bought all of the parts for the build, just have to wait for everything to ship, followed by pick up for some other items.
https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/DGJ73F
Then it should be built at some point next week. We will see how that goes.

You can use PowerShell to re-install built-in apps.

[editline]18th July 2017[/editline]
Or use a better e-mail program like Thunderbird.

Something I totally forgot to add was networking, my room is a bit far away from the modem in the living room so I can either run a really long Ethernet cable or get some USB or PCI-E WiFi card.
Any recommendations?
Later down the road, I may run a switch, get a NAS and have network storage for everything.
Already cleared it up. It also took all day to put the rack together in my breaks through the day.
Thing looks nice.
This is what they want you to think, until your 14th rack arrives on your doorstep next week
As long as it's getting security updates it's fine to use imo

I tried doing that, and it doesn't wanna work, I removed it and now I can't reinstall it
also I ditched thunderbird for the built in mail application, I like it a lot better.
last I heard Thunderbird was borderline vaporware

bug fixes being contributed, but Mozilla having basically moved on from the project
They're not gonna axe it, but mozilla's own dev's are only gonna focus on bugfixes.
Thankfully, since it's open source, others can contribute to improvements, or in the worst case, pick up the pieces if Mozilla fully drops it.

Isn't hard integrated programs fun?
Now you know my pain from when I last used non-app Skype, that and when it hang and I couldn't kill it fully and so couldn't start it again.
MS Calendar also clobbers privacy settings in gmail accounts
"oh what's this you changed an event's time by 5 minutes? guess what your event is now completely public ignoring the privacy setting of calendar default"
i've never used any of the ms apps except for outlook when i was working for the dod and i thought it was ok.
i kinda like the macOS built in apps tho. at least mail and calendar. except when i write an email in mail and every time i stop typing it saves a draft and when i use the gmail web app this shows up

i used calendar on my laptop, but not mail, mail and inbox don't get along at all

They're both beige and can't run Crysis, seems like basically the same thing to me.
