I remember having my hair super long, it looked like a mop. Always greasy and disgusting, deciding to go back to short hair was the best decision of my 19th year of living.

You know you are meant to wash your hair right? They have special hair soap called shampoo.
I tried doing that, and it doesn't wanna work, I removed it and now I can't reinstall it
also I ditched thunderbird for the built in mail application, I like it a lot better.
I seriously don't understand how someone can use the built in mail app. Coming from someone who used to work in a national call center doing email support, it's the worst of the non Incredimail tier clients.
I grew my hair out once, it turned into a huge ass mane kinda like a lion.
And yeah, shampoo every day
I built a PC for a coworker and today it apontaneously shut off and now will only pulse repeatedly when the power button is pressed until you pull the plug. The motherboard (MSI H110M Gaming) had this "EZ Diagnose" thing with an LED each for CPU, DRAM, and something else, and only the CPU one is flashing. Does that mean his i5-6600 is dead? I don't have any LGA 1151 computers to swap it into.

Oh also reset the CMOS and pulled every component except known good RAM and it's still the same behavior.

Yeah, I did every day and it still was a pain in the ass to manage. I know nerds get the stereotype of being smelly and not showering, but I got standards.
A guy I work with has been going bald for years, he finally embraced it and just shaved his head.

Looks better than a culdesac
Yo gman, gotta post that sweet sweet self bug reporting stuff here too, way too good a story not to share.
Thunderbird is alright, but like Firefox it just freezes out of the blue quite often, even on high-spec machines.
Wow. I only just learned there's a lan event near me from an article about AMDs Vega gpus. Apparently AMD will be there showing off systems built with vega weekend after next.
It's completely sold out. :(
[editline]19th July 2017[/editline]
It's fucking 15 minutes away and I've never heard of it
[editline]19th July 2017[/editline]
No, wait shit, it's this weekend

They started a comic con in my town and I only heard about it like a week before the second annual event was happening.
To be fair, it is pretty shit by the looks of it, but still.
I need a good, cheap webcam that's compatible with Linux (Specifically Linux Mint) out of the box. Anybody got any good ideas?

Most (if not all) are based on the USB video class standard, so might as well look for the best reviewed ones on websites similar to NewEgg, and then cross reference whenever or not they got good Linux support.
I can kinda understand Microsoft devs not testing support for the OS running in something other than English but how the fuck do you not even test basic shit like vim in your bash for windows abortion?

I just to be able to use vim and not need to have a javascript file run on startup that launches an active X component to run bash which then launches SSHD as a daemon.

Also systemd is broken.

Some people's hair gets greasy in a day. Mine does and my hair is about 1" long.
I had relatively long hair in my late teens, Washed twice a day and wasn't enough.
Eat better and exercise. It is the single best thing you can do for your hair, especially for grease. Weight and diet plays a huge part in sebum production. Yeah, sometimes you can have just naturally greasy and oily hair and it sucks, but there are ways to work to prevent it.
Great advice, let's all just have lost weight, been eating healthy and exercising for years and all our troubles will be solved! It's like saying the cure to lung cancer is not smoking.
[editline]19th July 2017[/editline]
As in, it won't fix anything short to midterm, probably not even longterm and completely disregards millions of other factors.

Did I sell it as a short to midterm fix? It is also the single largest factor you can actually do something about, there's no accounting for genetics here. Greasy hair sucks but it's not something you're 100% doomed to.
But hey. Be an ass to someone that actually has a way to help. That's always nice.

It's not really a large factor tho, you might see a measurable change after a few years of it. A realistic goal would probably be to find a shampoo that actually helps, which often aren't the generic 'anti-grease' shampoos or whatever.
Or do you really think workout is gonna magically degrease hair?

I'm talking preventative measures, not active measures. Weight and diet is linked to sebum production. Sebum is the actual grease part of greasy hair. It comes down to hormonal balance, which weight and diet are known large factors in. Same reason why it often affects women during their period and why it affects just about everyone during puberty. It's basically the exact same problem as acne, just with more genetic influence. In terms of preventative measure, it is the single largest thing you can actually do something about, otherwise it's up to genetics and you're basically fucked there. Shampoo and hair care choice is great and I recommend looking into that but it is frankly such a loaded topic to get in to that I didn't even want to touch that, that's why I talked about the one solid part you can actually do without any outside influence.

I've already cut back a lot on my unhealthy food intake which has maybe helped, fast food isn't that common anymore for me.
Still usually need to shower when I wake up and again when I go to bed.
You can also try to use shampoos that don't have SLS (sodium laureth sulfate) as it is actually bad for your hair, the same chemical is in most toothpastes and makes it so all citrus and some other food tastes awful after brushing. It is the most common lathering agent but its not that beneficial for you.
Real talk, buy your soaps and shampoos from a nice place like Lush, you won't want to go back to the mass produced shit in stores everywhere else once you get some really nice handmade stuff.
Also even if you're a guy, use conditioner. My hair was always really dry and frayed until I started using conditioner. Don't get combination shampoo/conditioner, that stuff isn't that good for you. Get separate stuff.

Lush makes nice stuff if you can afford it but that stuff is soooo expensive. For cost effectiveness, what Lua's saying is great stuff and I've found shampoo and conditioner that actively avoid SLS and similar things advertise it on the bottle, which makes it easier. Also yeah, seriously, don't ever skip conditioner. Else your hair will feel like it's made out of sand, and absolutely on the combination stuff, that stuff is crap.
Would say it's the coward's way out but all the shampoo mafia talk has me convinced now.
Hair loss is just about the scariest thing to me. Hair care is important :(
My mom's brother went bald before he was 20.
Glad I skipped that gene
e: I just realized there's a word for mom's brother. "Uncle." Christ I'm stupid.
They told me being an adult would be fun .
Everyone lied. It's all a big lie. Join me in the fight against "Big Adult."
I think theres a medicine that can be used to prevent hair loss called finasterid(e?) or something like that.
it works by blocking an enzyme which creates Dihydrotestosterone which is the hormone that is responsible for hair loss in some people. though it also makes the prostate smaller and its a prescription drug iirc.
Finasteride will definitely help, DHT is a pretty big factor in hair loss in men, as well as some other things. But keep in mind it is most definitely something of an extreme option.
What is a much easier recommendation is biotin, you can get it in large doses, in pill form fairly easily depending where you are in the world, it may be prescription only elsewhere. It's easy in the US at least.
In large doses it very strongly encourages hair growth. It's also nice for nails and skin.
You can find it in some shampoo's and conditioners, usually marketed for hair loss, but I can't say how effective it is in that form. There's a lot of FUD there. But I can say it does work in direct dosage. It's a route many doctors go with for hair loss.
But as with all things, talk to a doctor first.

Honestly, if Brt's gonna be getting banned for making funny quips about how we're all off topic, I'm not sure I want to be a part of this community anymore.
