Well officially moving a couple suburbs south with a couple friends. Our current plan is to have 3 subnets at the house so we don't interfere with each other.

Nooooo don't give them ideas now, imagine having social media integration on everything you print or scan.
I decided to do some testing

I'm glad I never try to watch netflix on my mobile data, where they throttle me to 1/20th of the speed I normally get

I'm glad I don't have a data plan because a youtube video would put me $20000 in debt.
In Australia, you can still get mobile plans that charge $2/MB for data
The prices literally haven't changed since they made the plan, when GPRS was new
In Estonia, mobile data is so cheap thag when the EU roaming thing came, our prices went higher when EU overall ones went down. Our EU representives had to argue so that they won't rise too much.
Mine went from 5GB/4€ month to 5€ month.
Sanity check. My server serves really no one but me. But I do want the flexibility of moving the server around the house. I have a spare AC68 PCIe ASUS 5ghz AC card which got me like 700-800Mbps link speed before.
I want to put it in my server so I can move it to another room without worrying about running cables or using powerline to the router. Does modern Wifi keep integrity well enough for moving files and streaming data over WLAN? Or could I have issues with corrupted files when putting them on the server. With all my care of using ReFS with checksumming, ECC ram, scrubbing, am I throwing that out the window by using Wifi to connect to it?
I could get almost gigabit speeds with that adapter and would make it so flexible with it on a big UPS. I could unplug it, roll it to a new room and connect it again without losing connection to anything.
There should be no difference between Ethernet or Wifi. Most of the time, data integrity is checked at higher layers from the physical network layer anyways (ie TCP checksums).

WiFi is inherently lossy so it uses ECC to ensure data integrity at the physical level. Lower signal strength results in less chance the data gets there in one piece which is why speeds drop exponentially with distance.

Yep. I just skimmed the 802.11 paper (fucking 3500+ pages beast). And by "skimmed" I mean CRTL+F for crc and checksum.
They do indeed run checksums and error correction all over the place.

Would you be willing to send me activated sim cards? :v: I will pay you 9€/m or smth

Shipping would be a one time thing though?
Well I think there's this rule added to the eu roaming that you can only roam 90 days per year. (This really made the whole thing not half as great)
So I guess to get around that one would need a new sim every 90 days
[editline]22nd July 2017[/editline]
OH they actually removed that regulation, nevermind I'm retarded

Isn't it still 90 days in a row? Haven't really checked.
Also I my data came with some catch with roaming, the price is 0,009€/MB (9,24€/GB) unless you pay for a special roaming package. (edit: It also got updated, EU gets 2GB in the price)
The "mobile life" package is more expensive, but includes EU data in its price. 8GB total/4GB in EU is 14€ for example.
Also weird is how we have to barter to get a proper internet package. Other carriers call you to make a special deal and then your own carrier calls you back to pricematch. That's like the only way to get a really nice deal without having to pay a shitton. Friend still has an old truly limitless data connection for under 10€ and no carrier can match that.
[editline]22nd July 2017[/editline]
What's more, when I go over the limit, I don't get pumped full of some dumb fees, I just get limited speeds to 120kbit/s down and 64kbit/s up. Enough to chat in Messenger or to get some info when I really need it.
Okay boys, I'm at my wits end with this PC. It's for a friend's build.
ROG Maximus IX Hero
i5 7600K
Cryorig CPU cooler
GTX 1070
two 16GB RAM kits(accidentally left one in the cart when ordering) One Kingston HyperX 3000mhz, one Corsair Vengeance 3200mhz
Corsair RM-750X PSU
Samsung 850 Pro 512GB
When I put all the parts together, and turn the computer on, it does come on, all the many LEDs inside turn on, and fans start spinning, however there is no display. I've tried with or without the 1070 installed. If I reset the CMOS, sometimes it'll get to BIOS. However if I connect the USB optical drive I'm going to install Windows on, it never does. I've tried loosening the CPU cooler as it might have been too tight, but that doesn't change anything. The Q-code on the motherboard, when it gets stuck, is usually A2 or A3, both of which the manual names as "IDE Detect", which is bizarre, as this motherboard has no IDE ports or even controllers! I've also tried every single stick of ram in every slot, but they don't seem to make a difference.
Can anyone shed some light on what I should do next? I'm pulling my hair out over this. I don't have any spare parts that are compatible, and my PC is LGA 1150 so I can't try a CPU transplant.
Blu-ray ripping nearly finished, 2.10TB used with a few more films left. Should have about 1.30TB spare after I'm done. (Have other stuff on the drive as well). Got a few others to go through like James Bond but I feel its best to dedicate another drive to that instead of wasting space on films I may not particularly like and I can easily transfer the box set up to university anyway.
I recall someone here using some sort of log collecting software, to collect PC / server stats and storing them to make graphs. I'm wondering which stack you use?

Dumb question but you're not mixing and matching the RAM kits are you?

Awesome, that's what I was hoping for. I get insanely good speeds on my 5ghz radios so I'm fine with the speeds. But having a mobile 60TB server now I can cart around if I need to for 5minutes at a time is perfect.

I ended up finding out i have more dropbox accounts then i remember making.
But holy shit what a rollercoaster of emotions, i should probably reconsider how i store some of my data.

On linux, I use collectd, InfluxDB (if you use this, Telegraf which is made by the same people is probably a better option than collectd) and Grafana to make this:

Which can be accessed from anywhere on my LAN and potentially anywhere else if I wanted

I dropped dropbox when someone from Algeria logged in, and they did nothing to hinder them (not even notifying me, I had to notice myself on the security page)
It's 2017, blocking strange logins should be some of the most basic first line account security defenses in place

Let it sit overnight and it all started working. No issues whatsoever with 16GB of RAM (only one of the kits) and the GTX 1070 installed. :mystery:

I think my job has reinforced my hatred of apple products
Need to replace a broken HDD in an iMac? Gut the entire computer including the screen and glass cover and all of its internal components. Then when its done they can have interns use and abuse it and do something stupid like dropping it on the floor again.
And now they're gonna order iMac pros.
Apple needs to make new cheese graters, i fend off all the vultures at work who want my dual Xeon 2012 Mac Pro because they hate their trashcans.
