Got the case, but it's missing a free fan so I will pick that up later (gee thanks NCIX for doing inventory properly, ffs). Anyways, started to install shit in. Biggest annoyances: -the D15 cooler is massive and gets in the way of me trying to plug shit in -placing the motherboard down properly -not fucking up the IO shield (I'm pretty sure I somewhat fucked it up or installed it incorrectly a million times) -routing cables to make it all clean -cables, cables everywhere -plugging in the GPU properly -figuring out which cable is for what (I figured it out) -taking the top panels off -installing the second fan the D15 came with After looking at it, I'm like wait shit. I think I have to rotate my CPU cooler to aim towards the back instead of upwards.. Or rotate the fan at the back to act as input instead. And of course, building a desktop isn't without an injury. I got a cut on my hands. Oh well. 3 hours later and it's more or less done. I just have to install the rest of the fans, maybe rotate a fan, install the panels back on, install the millions of hard drives I have laying around and the SATA cables for them.
gary is this the first time you're building a computer
gary is this the first time you're building a computer
From the ground up yes. I've done repairs, hardware swaps and such on desktops in the past. :downs: I have a good idea of what I'm doing with this adult Lego set.
The D15 is easy to setup, you just need to put your ram in first and the CPU power. Otherwise not much else it conflicts with usually. I love noctuas mounting.

Basically had to do little by little on each side to get it balanced otherwise the cooler would be out of balance and one or the other screw wouldn't tighten at all at that point.
Make sure not to overtighten your CPU cooler just because it can 'still move'. A lot of people have stripped the threads because they thought the CPU cooler has to somehow be immobilized completely.
Noctuas mounting doesn't really overtighten. It seems to just stop when it's fully tight. It's very secure. Or atleast their D14 and 15.

It's basically a more difficult version of PC building, it really should have prepared you for it.
Did you not have LEGO as a child? There wasn't really a defined step guide for the whole thing, I ended up watching an hour long video and skipped to the parts I needed. They recommended to install the cooler first, which is what I did. Only to uninstall it to install the RAM properly. Whatever. Anyways I know for next time and whenever I upgrade. In order to upgrade the RAM, I would have to take the cooler off but I think 32GB should be good enough for now.
Blood sacrifices are indeed required. I built my desktop and the only "injury" was my knees from kneeling on the ground for an hour putting it together. :v:
Last time I built a PC I managed to slice 3 fingers open.

Pro tip, don't cheap out on hardware that will run 24/7. About a year or two ago I bought a water cooling loop as the CM Silencio 452 has pretty shitty airflow. I went to install an additional hard drive in my server but then noticed the pump doesn't sound too happy :v: I should just invest in a proper server for storage but I'm short on cash right now so I just have to do it with this build until it falls apart completely.
(User was banned for this post ("Shitpost" - Kiwi))
Why on earth would you try to summon me with a sacrifice of Doritos and Dew? That's completely wrong. For one thing, the words alone usually suffice, no sacrifice needed, although if you're a stickler for summoning rituals, I can usually be reached by a septagram with the following items at each apex, clockwise from north: a passive PS/2->USB converter, a Rambus continuity module, a DA15->MIDI cable, any Micro Channel card, an RS-232 null modem cable, a CoaSt module, and a 10BASE5 vampire tap.
Or better yet, don't watercool a server with a closed loop cooler. They've caused nothing but problem for me in such application.
I should say for the year it lasted it worked better than using air cooling in this case. I often use that server to re-encode my Nvidia Share recordings and whenever that was going on with air cooling the whole case felt like there was a fire inside of it. Even though I had the CPU fan pulling air to the exhaust fan most of the heat was trapped inside the case. It's why I decided to install this watercooling loop which works much better, apart from the pump starting to rattle now.
Or better yet, don't watercool a server with a closed loop cooler. Coolermaster's is their own wholly developed in-house unit, which sadly tends to develop a nasty pump rattle after 1 to 2 years.
Is anybody following the upcoming AMD Vega launch at all? I bought a 1080 a couple months ago and I am very satisfied with it so I am mostly in for the shadenfreude, but it looks more and more like that that's all there gonna be.
If it comes out really soon and drops the priced for the 1080 Ti I just got, and I can price match it, I'd be happy
If the current limited assessments that it performs worse than 1080ti and that it's actually more expensive than 1080ti, I don't see any reason why would Nvidia drop their price - they are already selling the better product.

You should take that claim with a truckload of salt and wait for a better source before coming to conclusions like this. The suggested price on that reddit post doesn't even make sense, considering the workstation Vega FE is significantly cheaper.

And it's not like I am saying "Sell AMD stock, NOW" I am saying "things aren't looking too well right now", which they aren't, because somehow couple days before release, AMD failed to provide any official info, other than "I can't believe it's not GTX 1080!"
I was waiting for it to see if any version would be replacing the RX580 on the market, but the thing sounds so hot and such a power hog that I'm about to buy a 1060.
