i really want to justify the money to buy a nice home server for offloading work onto but EC2 is so cheap
Woah now. There is no way EC2 is cheap, not long term, especially if you're talking about a home server where you dont have to pay colo costs. I'll put it like this, my Power8 machine I've had for 8 months, this was a single fixed cost, On top of that I have monthly colo costs. When I compare to any level of compute, memory, or storage on EC2, it surpasses how much I've spent total over the past 8 months (That means both machine and colo) in 3-5 months. Not to mention the fact that I'm only paying the small colo costs long term, not machine costs, this means that long term it gets cheaper compared to the fixed cost nature of rental. This is including EC2 costs, bandwidth and EBS costs. It is far cheaper, especially long term to own my own machine here. Comparing to US East Ohio.

Personally I just need to borrow a high-power computer for an hour or two at a time to blitz through some genome sequencing, so it saves me a significant amount of my time and money to just occasionally power up the bass cannon instead of fussing about with a dedicated computer.
Few wee upgrades this month. My PC is VR ready now. Yey!
Why haven't they fixed DDR4 in Speccy yet? It's been 2 years since people started using it.
Windows hasn't even quite figured out DDR3 yet.
Windows hasn't even quite figured out DDR3 yet.
It gets it right for most systems though
Windows hasn't got DDR4 working either. [t]https://www.helifreak.club/image/20170729220510810.png[/t]
Mini-ITX master race
That's a weird way to spell DTX
Neat, I guess paper towels and windex are enough to scratch plexiglass side panels
Neat, I guess paper towels and windex are enough to scratch plexiglass side panels
Cheap plexiglass gets easily scratched. AFAIK that's where genuine Lexan has a advantage
Then NZXT uses cheap plexiglass. [T]https://imgur.com/h2kLkY1.jpg[/t] God it looks even worse in this picture
Then NZXT uses cheap plexiglass.
They're in the "bang for the buck" segment, from my experience and their usual pricetags. But all the cases I've personally handled by them didn't have side windows, but there were other signs of them not being high quality (thin coats of paint, side panels feeling a little flimsy, and so on)
I don't hate my h440, but it does suck that the side window is so easily scratched to shit
My case is the cheapest part of my system I think. It's pretty nasty (although it has some nice screwless storage compartment things) but it gets the job done. I'm using the computer not constantly looking at it
Do most modern components even get hot enough to worry about installing more than 2 case fans the only fans I have installed on my computer are the intake fans on my AIO cooler and even that's enough to keep it cool enough inside that the GTX1070 hardly spins up
I have no idea, it's probably fine but I got a free fan so I might as well use it.
NZXT is certainly features per dollar.
A company makes acrylic replacement side windows specifically for the h440, so I can look into that.
Then NZXT uses cheap plexiglass. [T]https://imgur.com/h2kLkY1.jpg[/t] God it looks even worse in this picture
Yeah my S340 is the same one, the plexiglass panel got scratched to shit. I'd rather just have a second solid panel tbh.
Got anotehr SSD. This one a PNY 64gb SSD. Machine sees this one but always fails to format at 100%, so I'll throw another one into my ever growing pile of Used and Dead SSD's. :suicide:
How new is the machine formatting it? Maybe the controller is going?
I got one of those toaster-looking SATA docks on my desk. Formatting is done via the Disk Management tool in XP. It will wipe and work with any other drive I throw into it fine.
Sure you don't wanna give it a shot in disk utility in macOS or something before throwing it out
Cross Post
This problem I have I cannot solve. Device is XIAOMI REDMI 3S (Land) It is my old phone, I want to factory reset for sale. So, I first try to permanently decrypt. Expected, this should conditional on Factory Reset. Factory Reset should also clear encryption. Credential storagae clear under Security was unable to be selected, so I decide to use factory reset. Factory reset complete, phone reboot, but STILL prompt encryption code (pattern). So, in OS, I see credential storage clear cannot be selected. Then, I find phone does not respond to ADB even when enabled. When try to boot to twrp for wipe, crash. On reboot, encryption password prompt is text, not pattern. No option to change. No recognized by windows on plug, no adb access. When attempt to boot to twrp softlock on boot. Fastboot load BUT fastboot does not communicate with PC. I dissassemble phone to check USB connector, no short, no damage to board or trace, no damage to socket. What is going on?! Current attempt to try battery and boot recovery again, but I do not have good hopes.

but aregeebees [sp]that I just set to white anyways since none of them can sync because you have to buy from the same manufacturer for that..[/sp]
I have a spot on the wall behind my computer where the colour cycling RGB lighting built into my motherboard escapes though a small hole in the I/O shield. I'd turn that shit off but I don't have a window.

Also, 2 8-pins what the christ.
