I'm starting uni here in Germany in october and I just worked out my financial situation at that time because you guys got me interested. So I'll be getting 499€/m from the gov (bafög) it's a bit less than it could be because I will keep living with my parents and a bit more than it would be on average because my parents earn very little. Half of that is basically a gift and the other half is a 0% interest loan. I probably won't need to touch the loan part of it except when going on vacations or something. Another expenditure is uni fees (only every semester), but these are only like 280€ and include things like a state wide public transport ticket, access to bike lending and cheap/free admission to museums and stuffs so that's pretty good as well. I can also earn 255€ with a side job without it affecting my bafög amount, but I will probably get a better paying sidejob - I hope that works out better for me but I also don't mind giving something back to the people that actually need this stuff more than me at that point I'm hopeful that I won't be in massive debt
The Bundesausbildungsförderungsgesetz (mostly known by its abbreviation BAföG)...
Jesus, German is nuts.
Well it's just a "composite word", so just several normal words glued together - you don't need to learn these as vocabulary when learning German :P Saves some spaces I guess
Lol I know, it's just funny how they do that. Would never fly in English.
It's not exactly the same, but
I went to a cheaper uni and only had to pull out a loan twice. Totalling $6000 in debt and my payments kick in sometime next year. Though my $9k in credit card debt and $19k car loan aren't exactly small debts either. Proud to be an American! :toot:
I don't understand going into debt for cars when you can get an older and cheaper car that'll run fine and get you from A to B.

Also I have a new hobby: Answering telemarketing calls entirely in Spanish. Maybe that'll get me off the list.

Holy shit.

Qvidqvid tv offerens nolo. Anvm svvm pedica! Vale!"

I know some people on active duty who have determined it is actually cheaper in the long run to rent when they move every three years, because the cost of buying a new home and selling your old home outpaces payments toward principle. The types that figure that out are usually the ones frugal enough to just save their whole career and buy a house outright (or with a huge down payment) when they get out, though, so in the end they still end up with a house.

I work in the mortgage industry, I know how bad those closing costs can be. I write the calculations for them. :v:

Was also a bit with the microcode early on (AFAIK) and the whole RAM shenanigans
Excuse me. is that Eight 16GB dimms at 3200Mhz?
Sorry mate, that isn't my PC :saddowns:
Oh man downloading 2GB BIOS update .iso files over a 35KB/s connection sure is fun.
Trying to clone my Raspberry Pi SD card to another using Win32 Disk Imager and it fucks up every time and kernal panics on the new SD card why why why??
For reference, they (Youtubers who have made several viral short films, web series, etc. using RED cameras) are calling Linus on his bullshit. Linus doesn't know what he's talking about? What else is new!
Linus ironically has set back tech education in many areas.
Just don't anger any of his fans in youtube comments or else one of them will go to your channel and will dislike all of your videos. It's like his fanbase consists of children. It happened to me once. Never touch that cancer again.

I watch Linus' videos to feel better about myself and my knowledge of computers. And also because he does dumb stuff and I'm actually 12.

While we are talking about Linus... let's learn how to not multistream :v:
I like watching LTT but really only for entertainment value. His informational videos are usually less than great.
It's like Jackass but for computers
