So what needs to happen for Intel to actually care about AMD hasn't happened yet. It will soon, and then things will actually get interesting.
Now don't get me too excited.
My ReFS pool finally finished scanning. It found no new bad files, but repaired 1.5TB of data. Cool.
Now don't get me too excited.
Hey, I'm not saying it will even work. Don't get your hopes up. Just those are the two prerequisites AMD need to not screw up.
So how bout' that error 503
So there's a rumor that the Pixel 2 is dropping the headphone jack too. Fuck off it it's true.
So how bout' that error 503
I saw a 404 on fp_read.php at one point!
Vega rumoured to be pulling 60-100MH/sec on ethash. Insane performance if true.
That's bad news for people who actually want to use the GPU
Possibly good news for me who wants a GTX 1070.
what's that youtube center alternative called again? just got a new notebook and i cant remember its name for the life of me
There's two from one dev. There's Youtube+ (Particle) for normal Youtube and Iridium for the new Material Design layout. Youtube+ is good but adjusting from YTC takes some time, as it just does things differently. Iridium right now isn't up to par with either yet, but it's getting there.
Right now, Intel doesn't care a whole lot. Contrary to popular belief, they are not panicking. Desktop is mostly irrelevant to them. High-end desktop only makes them a small fraction of their total client group revenue, and low end desktop ends up costing them tons of money. Intel has fired back with i9 and whatnot, yes but that's more due to wanting to keep market dominance, which looks nice to investors, than to actually beat Ryzen. They don't care about Ryzen or Threadripper. They don't need to. Desktop is a small market to them, and HEDT is only a fraction of that. The place where they actually make money is laptop and server. Right now, AMD hasn't touched those fields properly. All of AMDs laptop field right now old APUs, which as we've seen, people aren't buying. We're having to wait for Raven Ridge before AMD touches that market properly. The other is Epyc, which right now looks promising but is, in reality, very much a paper launch. You can get it, but it's not exactly competing or even being advertised by vendors. Its hard launch hasn't really happened yet. So what needs to happen for Intel to actually care about AMD hasn't happened yet. It will soon, and then things will actually get interesting.
They have to really fuck up tho, to not force Intel to drop some prices and close some gaps in their lineup.
My ReFS pool finally finished scanning. It found no new bad files, but repaired 1.5TB of data. Cool.
What form of redundancy are you using with your ReFS setup? How long did the repair take for you?
What form of redundancy are you using with your ReFS setup? How long did the repair take for you?
Dual Parity, Thin Provision. The actual repair is instant. But the scrub itself to go through like 45TB of data takes like a week. But thankfully the scan doesn't run ontop of the file system. So instead of like 120MB/s read, I get a combined of like 600 since multiple threads can run. The problem with parity is that it finds the error and then schedules the repair at a specific point, for a scrub it waits until the end of the scrub. Which is why I've considered making 2-3 Dual Parity ReFS volumes. The good part of ReFS in this case is that I know my backups are good because otherwise it would not have been allow to copy it to my archive disks.

[editline]3rd August 2017[/editline] Not that that's their huge market but it'll hurt.

[editline]3rd August 2017[/editline] Not that that's their huge market but it'll hurt.
Hey, anything's nice, right? It'd be nice if they did the Xeon E3 approach. Launch an AM4 server oriented chipset and then single-die Epyc. Just slightly different Ryzen SKUs, in reality.. It's basically the one gap they're missing so far. Not a huge market but it's also not a huge investment.
Doesn't Ryzen support ECC anyways? Unlike Intel who's actively killing ECC support on the consumer chipset.
Doesn't Ryzen support ECC anyways? Unlike Intel who's actively killing ECC support on the consumer chipset.
Exactly. So it's not like they even have to change all that much.
Ryzen 3,5,7 can use it, but it's not like certified. Threadripper basically advertises it in some slides I believe. If ASUS can maybe not certify but verify ECC can run on their board, that's the ticket to me putting my 1700 in my server.
I'm awaiting the popularity of r3 freenas boxes [editline]3rd August 2017[/editline] Since whatever possessed Intel to remove ECC support from celerons, Pentiums, and i3's
Since whatever possessed Intel to remove ECC support from celerons, Pentiums, and i3's
Money?
AMD has introduced Relive, its their equivalent to Shadowplay. It seems to perform equally well in comparison. https://gaming.radeon.com/en-us/radeonsoftware/crimson-relive/relive/
It has problems capturing some games compared to shadowplay. Especially source games in borderless mode.
Exactly. So it's not like they even have to change all that much.
Pretty sure most of what would be looked for are in Ryzen Pro: https://www.amd.com/en/ryzen-pro But still you're right, it'd be great if EPYC had a 8c part the same way Threadripper looks like it might.
2017 year of AMD???
I almost regret getting an Intel build in January. Great computer and performs great to be fair though, so too soon to upgrade.

So, i just accidentally find out Control + Win + C creates a black and white filter in Windows 10 (i'm on the insider build). Does anyone know for how long has this been implemented?
I just want to gush over how amazing the Asus T100TA/T101A/T102HA keyboard layout is. It is by far the best subcompact keyboard I've ever used. I never got lost on it and the layout is perfect. The biggest trick is the arrow keys being big and pleasant and the FN key being right there on the right, right next to the arrow keys which are the page fn keys. It's so smooth and fluid to use. [t]http://i.imgur.com/emv619I.png[/t] Will you stop!? They aren't even logging into the account, they are just sending the password recovery emails to my email which they clearly don't have access to. And I guess someone is trying to log into my Facebook to but they don't have my password for that. Thank god for 2FA + LastPass.
Don't worry we will retaliate by sending pentium to park in his reserved parking spot.
I fucking had to drive for two days from Arco, ID back to Vancouver to reply to this because fuck american internet speeds. Yeah, I'm up to this. I can double the dead video cards too and go at this Godfather style.
