Trying to search for a new laptop for my dad. I just need a cheap and reliable netmachine. 15.6" screen, 4-8gb of ram and an SSD + HDD. Tried looking for some lappies but I think I have to buy another Clevo rebrand because it has customizatsion on its site. Much better than to find a fitting laptop that has a HDD instead of an SSD or having to pay extra for bloated Windows when I am capable of installing it myself.

maybe the server is just hacked
So my boss quit after the shitstorm on monday with management telling us that: flex hours are out comp time requires approval usage of comp time requires approval working from home is expressly forbidden all work time anomalies are to be logged We have no idea who pissed in who's oatmeal last week, but he'd finally had enough and left. His position is now open though, and according to him his job didn't differ tooooo much from mine. It would also come with a substantial pay raise. At the same time its pretty much a management role and I'm pretty sure I'm not ready for that. Although I've also never tried. I dunno its probably a bad idea to even consider throwing my name in the ring.

What's a reasonable Detachable tablet for midrange use for my boss? Looking for something with 8GB of RAM and at least 256GB but around $700 and less. I don't think an Apollo Trail or Core m3 machine is going to cut it.
So I bought an Omen X (yeah, I know, it's disgusting) but I wanted to make a window panel for it. So I did and I posted it on the HP Omen Facebook page. They acknowledged it and said they would def. add a window panel to their new Omen PC's. 7 months later.. they now have window panels on their Omen PC's.. including the one I bought. Now granted, I realize I already have a window for my PC but it would of been cool if they had sent me the new panel for free. I love mine and all but i'm guilty their panel def. looks better. I think their PR team would be more than happy to send you one, especially if you posted it publicly on their Facebook or Twitter.
maybe the server is just hacked
I checked that it's not a Tor exit node beforehand, so it's not that. I have high doubts it was jacked when he's starring script kiddie repos on GitHub.
What does being a tor exit node have to do with it being hacked or anything Also he IS a software dev, it's a good thing that hes into it sec (obviously isn't working out too well in any case :v:) and that doesn't taint him negatively in any way
I checked if it's a Tor node just in case it was someone going through his box that way, nothing to do with the box being popped. Just saying.
The pizza in Italy wasn't as good as I was hoping for

If it is an actual management position where you will be actually managing people and you don't know what you're doing, don't do it. Bad managers ruin everything. If it's an "IT Manager" position for an internal IT consisting of 2-3 people where you are still handling tier 1, shoot for the stars. Also apply if everyone else applying for it sucks more than you I guess.
The pizza in Italy wasn't as good as I was hoping for
Nothing beats upstate New York pizza.
Oh cool. Someone made a software module for X10 that lets you call in from any telephone and control your house via DTMF tones.
Oh cool. Someone made a software module for X10 that lets you call in from any telephone and control your house via DTMF tones.
Great, at that point high-level vulnerabilities don't even matter anymore! :D
Link please, this is useful for those of us without smartphones v:v:v
It's buried on this site. I was reading over the release notes.
If Intel can get prices the same as their current i7 counterparts, 6 core CPUs with the IPC and clocks they currently get, then the 'year of AMD' for the desktop will be short lived. Thought I'm really interested in Zen 2 and 7nm GloFo process. I didn't have high hopes since their current process for high-power silicon isn't amazing, and then they were given IBM's foundry division for $USD 1.5 Billion, so that was an weird considering.
Zen isn't on an IBM node. Right now, no one but IBM is even using IBM nodes at glofo. In every way that matters, the IBM stuff is still separate. The new IBM 14nm node is 14nm HP, which isn't even offered to other customers, and is most notably a FF SOI node. Zen is 14nm LPP, which is Samsung derived. There's no crossover there, and no signs of their 7nm work having any either.
Welp someone got recommended to the position, which works for me. Nobody else on the team was moving towards it, and if nobody at all moved towards it I'd have thrown my hat in the ring. I just hope the issues that caused bossman to quit get resolved. We can't afford to have this happen again.
Sounds like it might be a good idea to do a little job hunting in your off time
Oh i am. as much as I hate to say that, I'm certainly looking around. I've played this game before and I've heard enough buzz words and seen enough happen this past week to spook me real good. Considering I'm a "contingent professional" odd way to spell temp then I don't have to really worry about a 2 week notice. If I get an offer and its a good offer, I'm probably going to jump. Which is real depressing to think about because I was hyped as fuck to work for this company and there's a lot of really good people here.
Feeling the need to vent. I've worked in one of Swedens biggest electronic retail stores for about year and a half now and I don't really have any fun/stupid stories until now. Had a lady, maybe 60-65 years old, coming in monday to buy a simple laptop to watch netflix on when she's not near her desktop. We managed to find that an Asus E200 worked best for her in her budget and size class. Forward Wednesday when Im having my day off she comes in and yells at my coworker that the included office package only lasts until January, and not 1 year. My Co-worker tells her that she needs to activate it before january, and it will last 1 year after activation. She refuses to listen and also complains that a piece of plastic fell off when she jammed in/took out the charging cable to which my colleague sees that its also scratched (so she's not been careful) and tells her that its not covered by warranty. Later it turns out she is drunk and reeks of alcohol and shouts out death threats to a colleague at the return desk. She's promptly kicked out by one of the managers. Then Friday she's managed to get a hold of our CEO in Sweden, who feels sorry that she's not had a pleasant experience and refunds her everything and tells us we did wrong.
Update on this, the Admin ("2nd in command" at work) brought me into a meeting with him and berated and almost yelled at me for spreading a bad atmosphere to our group at work by talking about this shit.
Update on this, the Admin ("2nd in command" at work) brought me into a meeting with him and berated and almost yelled at me for spreading a bad atmosphere to our group at work by talking about this shit.
Sounds like he's the one ruining the atmosphere and morale.
Sounds like he's the one ruining the atmosphere and morale.
Oh you better believe it. He is the worst. We have some old stock Macbook 12" that we need to get rid of before they get too old. He thinks removing max 10% of their value is a good deal for the customer (most of the new ones are even cheaper though) or not lowering price at all, since he's worked for Apple he knows that Apple customers swallow a lot of bullshit. I'm leaving here for Asus as soon as I get my drivers license.
That's the story pretty much anywhere in my experience
