I've had my oneplus one for 3 years now. No case. No screen protector. Screen hasn't been cracked yet. Millions of dings and scratches elsewhere but otherwise still working. I wonder how much longer it will last.
I haven't really watched any LTT videos since they fucked up their thumbnails, but holy shit their reviews are awful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OU5kcRUpEks I mean, one thing is little time they spend on actually reviewing stuff, but the readability of their graphs is just terrible. Like look at this shit: [t]http://i.imgur.com/ciUEap2.jpg[/t] You'd think they'd at least be able to get the production of their videos right (also awful distortion effects on cuts? What?).
Man, Origin really is a piece of shit. I'm installing games to my new rig. Install my entire Steam library, 1.8TB, disk ended up with 1% fragmentation, just a dozen files that got split into two fragments each. Install my entire Origin library, 40GB, disk ended up with 12% fragmentation, and basically every file Origin touched was spread across 40+ fragments. One was 445 fragments! How do they even do this? This was on a brand-new, freshly-formatted disk, has never had less than 30% free space.
It's due to the way packaging works on the platforms, on steam, when you click to download the game, it actually pre-locates the place to where the game is going to end up on disk, and then write the game to that space Origin downloads and stores on-demand if I recall

I left my KVM alone for another week and it started working again. Huh.
I left my KVM alone for another week and it started working again. Huh.
Bad caps maybe?
Bad caps maybe?
Willing to bet. Anything I find that works only after being left on for a while seems to have that as the problem.
I cannot wait for the day when I can afford to run my own rack. Dealing with datacenter through colo companies is such a pain in the ass. We were trying to get access to install a new disk in a machine and some other maint, we scheduled the appointment to get to the machine in the DC a week in advance through the colo company. First, they scheduled access to the wrong area of the DC, so had to wait half an hour for that to get resolved and now after I just shut down the machine remotely, we're having issues with getting access to the cage. So here I am sitting in a cafe, 3 minutes from the DC, on my laptop cleanly shutting down the machine and monitoring everything I can, while my partner is stuck outside the cage, looking at the machine unable to do anything while we wait for the company to stop fucking everything up. We're TRYING to minimise downtime but they're really not helping. [editline]21st August 2017[/editline] The guy they sent didn't even know what a crash cart was. I think we're gonna be changing provider...
Have fun with the worse gpu performance, less frame rate (in Google Chrome, I remember Google maps lagging a lot when you moved around the basic map itself), worse battery life. But hey, it's 4K! Typically the 4K panels are the closest you will get to a colour accurate display on a laptop these days anyways, which is annoying.
I actually bought a 4K XPS 15, and it's honestly the best laptop screen ever. Not only from the PPI point of view, but the colors are way better than the 1080p version. I can still get a solid ~6 hour of browsing on battery, and GPU performance is negligable when you're not running 4K with GPU intensive applications. Overall, it's great a great screen if you feel like paying for the premium.
Hackintoshing was fun, turns out everything but that crap mPCIe wifi card I found works :v: It feels nice to have OS X on a nice screen after dealing with an 11 inch 768p laptop for so long. Also, if anyone's got a fix for sleep mode on an ASRock H170 board let me know. [editline]20th August 2017[/editline] In fact, I may just set OS X as default and only run Windows for games. It's that nice.
there's a pretty large thread about my mobo on tonymacx86 so i want to try hackintoshing my desktop one day

So I have determined my laptop's battery had degraded to the point that it has less than 18 hours of capacity in sleep mode. Might be time to replace it.

[editline]20th August 2017[/editline] There's a new one waiting for me at the office but I haven't been there since Wednesday morning.
Hackintosh on a ryzen build sounds like actual fun. It's apparently more hacky and more involved.
You'll likely have to fiddle with a lot of kexts and get a lot of spinning beachballs of doom. Doesn't sound like a fun time to me :(

[editline]20th August 2017[/editline] Like OSX is my perfect home workstation OS but I'm not so sure I want to pick up a 5k iMac, rather have dual U2515H's. I could totally survive on an updated Mac mini though with Intel 520
each file is 2GB flat It's been like eight minutes already I can feel my death approaching faster than this shit
Speaking of Ryzen,
When do we get the 1600 club jackets

I'd like my desktop to be 4k before my mobile device :v:
When do we get the 1600 club jackets
I'd legitimately love a Ryzen branded hoodie or jacket. It's a cool logo.
It's amazing how well AMD's CPU division brought trust back into the company and how quickly RTG ruined it.
I like progressing but I feel like it's still way too early to use hbm memory and that probably killed the value for Vega.
HBMs main factor into Vega isn't the cost but the power draw. Vega itself is actually reasonable on power-usage, but their entire memory subsystem from every bit of investigation I've done seems to suck a ton of juice. And I mean everything from memory controllers to the HBM itself. It does have a cost impact but honestly nothing more serious than GDDR5X would have.

I thought HBM2 and its controllers were supposed to be more efficient than GDDR5(X), but it was the actual chip that was super hungry. Though I do also remember reading that the HBM2 memory had to be ran overclocked/overvolted to reach AMD's desired performance. Honestly I'm gonna withhold judgement on Vega as an architecture until the drivers are more fleshed out. But so far it's not looking good. RTG dropped the ball hard in terms of distribution, marketing, etc...
I think that's the crux of it. For Vega to be competitive, they had to push it to the limit.
watch -n 0.5 -d ls -lh is probably my new favourite command
jesus fuck NEVER install ASUS's fucking programs I just had to reinstall windows on my new build because ai suite made it go into this weird sleep state at fucking random and the only way out was to unplug the fucking machine
That's really odd, you probably could have booted into safe mode and uninstalled it
it actually won't uninstall in safe mode, just straight up refuses even after I managed to uninstall it it kept doing it so I reinstalled windows (was a fresh install anyway) it's been running for a couple hours now with no issues so I guess that was it
