No idea if you are on an Android phone (or if it works in US) but I use an app called Should I answer?
Worked great for when I was getting pestered with 30+ idiots spam calls per day (and had to keep the number while waiting for important phone call)

I get similar calls, except they actually leave voicemails. Always something about an ambiguous "Credit card debt", or "Car warranty". Plus a few IRS scams.
Hiya worked pretty well for me, has the option to straight up block confirmed scam/robocalls.

I love getting calls from XXX-XXX-YYYY where X is the first 6 digits of my phone number and Y is a random 4

Yeah what the fuck is up with that trend lately? I get them on my personal phone and even my work phone.

I think it's supposed to trick people into answering ("Oh it's a local number, I wonder who it is?") but it just ends up helping me to ignore it even more :v:
If I don't recognise a number I just ignore it. Chances are if they know me, they have another way to get in contact. and if it's important, they'll call again.

Well yeah but I mean it seems like this is suddenly a problem for everybody out of nowhere. Who put the trend in motion is what I'm wondering
My phone is less of a phone than it is just a firefox on wheels

My SMS is even more deserted, even though if and when I bother to recharge, I get unlimited of them
Just email me
Yeah, the stream of scam calls is certainly annoying. They seem to be tapering off, I've only gotten one or two a week for a while now, not multiple per day like I used to see.
Worst part is, I literally can't fall for any of them. No, there is not a problem with my credit card account, because I don't have a credit card. And I've never been to Orlando, stop saying I won a cruise trip because I stayed in an Orlando resort. And I do my own taxes, so you can't be my tax preparer telling me you got me more money somehow.

Lol yeah. Worked the first time, sure, but the 2nd and 3rd times it becomes pretty obvious.
Honestly, I don't pick up most of the spam calls I get anymore. I think they've started to slow down. One left a minute long voicemail of pure silence, though. Voicemail tricked the robot for a minute, I guess.
Also I use TrueCaller on iPhone, works fine.

There's one going around that waits for you to make noise, then starts playing the recording. It tries to convince you it's human, "oops, I just adjusted my headset, is it working now?" or something like that. Fooled me good the first time, and it's why I answer unknown-but-not-flagged-as-spam calls in Classical Latin.
Well, that, and because I can.

I used to do the same but in Spanish. They would get very confused and hang up. It was pretty funny.
I wish I'd paid more attention in German class.
A good 你好 gets 'em every time.
my favorite recently was getting a call from mexico (i speak no spanish)
handed it off to my friend sitting next to me who speaks fluent spanish before answering. someone was looking for "lord cry-pto" because apparently "a cousin who lives out of state and he'll know who it is" was trying to get a hold of me
they said they'd call back after an hour, but they didn't and it made me kinda sad
One of my friends has a dog. When a such call arrive, he clip the phone to the dog collar.
Gotta love those calls where they tell you your windows computer has a virus! Got a few of them before, decided to waste some time on one of them. At the end of it, we talked about it and it looks like they make a decent amount when they do get a suckered.
Mine is that thing I play candy crush on when there really isn't anything better to do and the thing I find trivia on near wifi. Like I still have prepaid and in every way prepaid is cheaper.
Stops being doable if you really really really really really really really really want a job.
Been lucky so far and never had to deal with scams so far.
well if I'm expecting a phone call it's a little different but I know what you mean.

The only game on my phone is hearthstone, and I haven't opened that in five weeks.
In my spare time I just fuck around as root, looking at databases and shit.
Oh I guess it's also my mp3 player.
installed a plugin onto foobar recently to copy or transcode (when appropriate) music from one playlist into a destination folder. Syncthing handles the rest.
Used to have like 16GB of Flacs on my phone, now I have like 7GB of mp3s, much more room for shit
Can you run IRIX in a VM?
