For $400-460, that sort of setup is an absolute steal. In some cases, it even beats out the 5970 by a whopping 20fps.
yea but if you get a 480 you could get another in the future
yea but if you get a 480 you could get another in the future
You can get another 460 for 3-Way SLI and that will probably kick even more ass.
yea but if you get a 480 you could get another in the future
Why would you bother waiting :geno:
wait nevermind 460s only have one SLI bridge
fffffffffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
Oh well, dualies are still a steal.
This is good news for me, very good news.

Agreed. And two of them are cheaper than a single 480
I'm still saddened by the loss of 3-Way SLI D:
Otherwise I would SO get this motherfucker. But I can pay a little extra and get dual 470s.

Then wait for non reference boards to include it... you know it will happen.
Besides the lack of 3 way SLI may be in defense of their other products, IE GTX 470. I have a 470 and its great, but you can clock a 460 to match a 470 no problem. 3x SLI 460's would mean no one would buy 470s unless they wanted to OC from 470 speeds(Like me).
Would a 750W (Corsair) power supply be able to run this?
I'm more bothered by the fact that they will release a GF104 GTX480 soon, meaning that my GF100 GTX480 will be left in the dust.
Yeah these 460s are fucking awesome it seems.
Would a 750W (Corsair) power supply be able to run this?
IT would run 2x GTX460s no problem.
Also MSI Cyclone 1GB 460's are the best so far. OC from 675MHz to 930... damn.

I wonder if you could SLI a GTX480(GF100) with an after-market cooler, and OC it to match a GF104 GTX 480.
Because Im pretty sure you can SLI different Die sizes so long as its the same card.
One GTX 260 (The cheapest version with 768MB VRAM) is 290$ here.
FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-
I already got a 470.
Oh well, I only payed $150 for it so I guess I can always SLI later on and kick ass.
Agreed. And two of them are cheaper than a single 480
But they use more power and generate more heat.
But they use more power and generate more heat.
Nope, GF104 is cooler and requires less power than GF100.
Fermi vents lava bandwagon shit is over.
2xSLI GTX460 works on 650w.
No, what I'm saying is that two cards will generate more heat than a single card setup.

it still vents fire
Yeah that's cool and all but you fail to mention that 460 in SLI is still roughly in the same price range, if beating a 480 by 5 frames is awesome, I would surmise a 2Gx2 Toxic 5970 is godlike. For those that purchased a 480 then, all they have to do is purchase another 480 now (at roughly equal cost) and pretty much destroy any chance of two 460s keeping up.
Also neglected to mention that the 480s larger bandwidth also makes keeping vsync enabled and thus stable card clocks and framerates at high resolutions a more viable option. Anyone who crows that their setup gets 100000 fps pretty much invalidates themselves for being an idiot because all you're doing in drawing all those unneeded and unused frames is wearing down your card(s) that much faster.

Not happening. The closest you'll see to that is a 104x2 based "495" with a custom controller for huge bandwidth, which will still likely be less crunchy than two 480s in x16SLI, same as last generation where two 2gig 285s still outpaced any competing 295 sandwich card from nVidia. This isn't even bothering to cover that 480s scale at almost 100% on any current title.
It's a fine budget card, but let's not kid ourselves that it's anything else.
