Thanks and eww. "Hey guys I put a bi-linear white-to-transparent gradient over the icon" "BRILLIANT"
Hope this OS X version of Steam is true so I can have one place to manage all 5 Mac games :v:
I'd imagine they're just finishing a few source game ports, before it's released.

It looks a little better when it's larger:

But yeah it looks nasty on a 16x16 icon.

Just because it's an icon doesn't void my opinion. I'll say whatever I please about the fucking icon. Also good for you.

hey no one cares
Steam icon needs to stay black like the old one. They need to do something with the gradients as most of them are horrible.

Apply gradients, EVERYTHING LOOKS LIKE WINDOWS 7 :downs:
They could atleast give steam a high res icon for Vista/7 for fucks sake

This is Valve. They'll realize Windows 7 exists sometime around Windows 12.
What holds anyone with replacing the old steam icon, the only thing you have to do is replace the steam icon in the steam folder.

Funny yet they already support fully support 7.
Funny yet they already support fully support 7.
Except they dragged their heels for so long on Vista you can't fully let them off the hook now.

I want to be able to drag the window to the sides to make it fill half the screen.
Looks a lot like the zune software
Thats exactly what I thought. :v:

That'll come when steam allows us to use a non-custom theme/ui and use Window's UI instead (never).
Or if Microsoft allows all windows to work with Aero Peek and Aero Snap.
As said earlier, Steam will probably never use the native Aero UI as it's UI has to work on the Steam overlay in-game and this just isn't possiblw with Aero.

Why not? I get that everything reverts to Aero Classic when a fullscreen application is running but why can't the in-game UI use that?
i really miss the collapsing games list thing... i really do...

The new design is terrible. It doesn't fit in with the UI of any other apps or the Windows UI, it's slow as hell (dragging windows around for example is very laggy) and I personally think it looks inconsistent and ugly in itself. The layout is just plain confusing.
It's not lagging any more than the old UI for me. And the old UI didn't fit in with any other apps either.
But at least it was consistent in the sense that it had a Windowsesque title bar, border and menu system. The steam beta looks like it belongs in a Microsoft mobile device or something.
When I run a non-steam program using the overlay I get killer lag.
Just installed Napoleon Total War via 2 discs, without any hiccups at all. :3:
The new UI really isn't that instable, just give it a minute to respond instead of instantly killing the process.
The in-game UI is bad, nothing looks right... Plus, occasionally, it won't load and I'll be left with buttons with no words in them...
Found a fix:
[release]The problem is caused by a setting in Internet Explorer's connection settings. Under "LAN Settings" in the Internet Options, if the box "Automatically detect settings" is checked, the Steam browser will not function. Once the box is unchecked, and Steam restarted (note I do not use a proxy) the browser works properly. So to fix the problem, open IE, go to Tools -> Internet Options ->Connections -> LAN Settings, and uncheck "Automatically detect settings," then close and re-open Steam.[/release]
I was under the impression that the in-game browser no longer uses IE, hence why it runs faster. So why does that fix it?
I think it's a bad change. I don't see how making everything huge makes steam better (see games list, my current list is already 2 pages long, with having a full icon it'll be 30 pages or so).
I think the new layout is making everything complicated. I like the simplicity of steam, just having Store Community Games next to each other. All I need.
Woe is me I have to drag my mouse a few more pixels.
