I was under the impression that the in-game browser no longer uses IE, hence why it runs faster. So why does that fix it?
So it uses windows' default internet connection, not a VMWare one or something else.
As said earlier, Steam will probably never use the native Aero UI as it's UI has to work on the Steam overlay in-game and this just isn't possiblw with Aero.
There's this thing called Windows Basic. Look it up. It looks blue.

Also it's very possible to use Aero. I don't see why you think otherwise. You want to go ahead and explain to me why it's not possible?
The in-game UI is bad, nothing looks right... Plus, occasionally, it won't load and I'll be left with buttons with no words in them...
I get that too, but usually it fixes itself after a while?

Unfortunately, yes.
Anyone else got a bug where you can't see some of the font on the overlay?
I wish Valve would update the 'Updating Steam Platform' dialog. It still uses the 1.0 interface which is stupid.
Anyone else got a bug where you can't see some of the font on the overlay?
Yeah I have that. Also the "remember password" feature doesn't work anymore.
My games menu looks nothing like that.
My downloads section does though, kinda.
I really like it, apart from the bugs, but that is expected since it is a beta.
I don't see any glarring problems apart from that.

Agreed, I especially like the customizable categories since it's needed a feature like that for a long time. Though it would have been even better IMO if they kept the compact view and let you define your own sections (like the existing Favorites, Installed, Not Installed).
I just hope the make the font size smaller. There's no need at all whatsoever to have it that big.
Do you have to reinstall all your games? if so, F that.
Do you have to reinstall all your games? if so, F that.
It's a new UI.
This is Valve. They'll realize Windows 7 exists sometime around Windows 12.
We've had two Left4Dead games, and still no HL2-EP3... You can see where their priorities are... Leaving their primary fanbase in limbo while their main icon (Gordon, who got them famous and rich) gets neglected for two mediocre zombie games. Their priorities are fucking backwards, they really know how to bite the hand that feeds them. :argh:

You're dumb, I got more enjoyment out of L4D than I ever will get out of the Half Life series. The majority of the people playing Half Life are just playing it to finish the story.
I was under the impression that the in-game browser no longer uses IE, hence why it runs faster. So why does that fix it?
Because Steam uses Windows' web browsing settings which just so happen to be configurable in IE.
I just find the big text so gross. Icons would of been nicer, IMO.
Because Steam uses Windows' web browsing settings which just so happen to be configurable in IE.
And because IE is slow as hell, and should never be used anywhere.
I am not a fan of the new UI simply because of how the entire thing feels.
The current Steam UI looks totally professional (I am using the Flat - Obsidian color scheme) and this new UI looks almost thrown together. Sure it has a lot of cool features and some things are streamlined and others are re organized (love the grid view), but I feel it has really taken a step backward. Think about it, the new UI is just gradients on EVERYTHING (including tray icon -_-) and then they just dumped text on it.

Have they fixed the thing where it deletes all non valve games yet? I've got it on my laptop, and i love it, but i really don't want to install it on my main pc if it's going to delete things.

According to their updates they did, but just in case you might want to back up MW2 and the CoH expansions if you have them (plus any other games that people have reported being deleted, but those are probably the biggest downloads).

I highly doubt Valve only has one group of programmers that only work on one thing at a time. You do know most companies have a thing called divisions. One division works on EP3 the other L4D the other the Steam platform, and etc.

They used Trident. They didn't announce they're using Chrome and/or Safari. Webkit. There's a difference between rendering engine and the chrome.

it's actually called a division, i believe.
Does anyone know why text craps out on the in-game UI?

Fine, then. "Trident is slow as hell, and shouldn't be used anywhere."

Whoops. Opera didn't underline it so I didn't pay much attention to it.

Remember, if it wasn't for Half Life, there wouldn't be a GMod, and if GMod was never made, Facepunch wouldn't have been created.
