I honestly wouldn't like that, I think. I'm generally open to UI changes, but this wouldn't make sense, vertical scrolling is easier than horizontal on portrait mode phones.
I'd be happy with just the background patterns and the groups to be honest. Would like to see some form of that though. With vertical scrolling of course.
If there were groups though I would like it to if you tapped a group name it would show a vertical list of all groups so you could go straight to one if you have a lot of tiles on the screen. Sort of like how the lists work in Zune/People by tapping on of the letters.

Groups could be cool, though they may not be as useful vertically and with such little screen estate, and I could understand why people might want the patterns. I find it cool with just the black background, but options are/should be there to satisfy everyone.
Companies need to give a choice of these kind of things, like you can just go to the menu and change it. I wouldn't mind trying out that UI, but I really like the UI as it is, I don't want one or the other, I want one and the other :v:.

ugh, this shit looks so fucking awful. And it's probably going to be the future of Windows Phone logo. I don't know why for windows 8 they couldn't go with the regular flag shape and plast a square on it and be done with it. Shitties logo refresh ever, imo.

"Regular flag shape" - I'm down with the fact that I don't find it an improvement, but it does kinda make sense it not being a flag, but, peculiar as it may be, a window.
And who made that the official logo? Wait for the actual refresh before complaining, or go to the Windows 8 thread.
What if WP8 looked like this:

I actually kinda like that.

It would make sense it was a windows instead of a "flag" if it wasn't for the fact that the windows flag brand has exised for more than two decades and its a globally recognized brand.
the windows phone flag logo is a nice looking transition from aero to metro and by simply giving it the regular windows colors it would be a clear enough statement of the new look of windows 8 without losing the familiarity of the Windows flag logo.

I agree completely. I'm just saying it sort of makes sense, not that it's a good thing.
i think consistency is key and changing their logo so drastically would make them lose out of brand recognition
also my phone's home button would be outdated

What I'd personally prefer is to keep the current UI more or less. But add a swipe Left to a notification center of sorts.
You could have quick setting like Wifi, data services in there. As well a better writeup of the various notification toasts.
So that would give you
Home - standard live tiles
Swipe Right - applist as it currently is
Swipe left - notification center

If you like this kind of thing, you should really just get the N9. Best OS out there.

I don't think they'd change the Windows Phone logo, I mean look at it on that design, it doesn't feel like there is a center point to the Home button, but with the current one it all fits rather nicely.

Same thing goes for my keyboard's win button
I wouldn't mind it

I was thinking about that
If the new logo had the angled perspective it would took terrible printed on any hardware
Is the volume buttons not changing the volume when the phone is locked a WP7 thing or is it just my Lumia?
Is the volume buttons not changing the volume when the phone is locked a WP7 thing or is it just my Lumia?
I think it's just you, mine changes volume both when it's locked and/or when the screen is off + something is playing.

Works fine with lockscreen on as well as completely locked (blank screen)

After a bit of searching it seems to be a common issue with the Lumia 900. Oh well.
Is the volume buttons not changing the volume when the phone is locked a WP7 thing or is it just my Lumia?
Same with my radar. Headphone buttons work under lockscreen, the phone's buttons do not.

I would rather like to see something like the charms where you swipe from the bottom or something.
Then you have universal controls prevalent through all the apps which I love about Windows 8.
Heads up:
MS released their Photosynth app for Windows Phone. It's pretty amazing, but for it to fully work it needs a gyroscope. Still works pretty well with first gen phones..
We need a WP7 developer, someone who owns a WP7 device and is capable of developing (And publishing if possible) applications for the platform. All you need to do is follow the Phonegap instructions for WP7 and use the code from the FPMobile GitHub repo to create a usable app. Please contact me if you're able to help out.
Not sure if this has been posted, but Carphone Warehouse in the UK are currently offering an unlocked PayG Nokia Lumia 710 for £99 until the 6th of June.
I'm probably going to pick up mine tomorrow. Is there anything I should know about using Windows Phone? I've used both iOS and Android in the past.

compared to the two a lot more stuff is natively integrated and keyboard is better IMHO.

Yeah. I got my Lumia today and I love it - much faster and easier to use than iOS and Android.
One thing I'm disappointed about is the lack of apps in comparison to the other app markets, however, I'm sure this will improve over time, much like the Android Market.

This is fairly old but hadn't been posted yet. It's a fan made Windows Phone 8 concept.
I really hope this is what Windows Phone 8 is like. Not too different from Windows Phone 7 with just a few Windows 8 features added in.
I'm not a fan of how all of the tiles are completely different colours, though. It looks too busy for such a small screen.

Looks good but I'm not a fan of them wanting to spread the windows 8 logo around
Honestly that looks really bad. what's the big difference with the current UI.. landscape mode and grouping? nope.
I'm slowly getting worried windows phone 8 will just be a catch-up update. So far the only somewhat confirmed things are higher resolutions, expandible memory, (hopefully) screencaps, and other stuff that WP is lacking. No innovations or anything.
Here's another WP8 concept: http://www.neowin.net/news/a-vision-of-windows-phone-8-and-how-microsoft-could-enhance-the-platform
Looks cluttered.
