The combo on the PSU + Case is no longer valid. I'm gonna search around for new deals. [editline]1st July 2011[/editline] Looking at other deals it seems that similar deals are made with more shoddy PSUs. It may be worth it to just buy the case and PSU seperate.
I don't know much about PSU brands and how good they are, but keep in mind that you don't have to get a case/PSU combo. They combo PSU's with other stuff too. This is one I found that looks like it's a pretty good deal. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.676691
The deals will be back, usually Newegg refreshes them and most of them disappear and then they are combo'd up again.
I've ordered the parts but I made a couple of small changes. -I've found a pretty decent monitor in our basement that I know works. I will be using that for the time being instead of ordering. -I've spoken with my family friend who gave me the old case and she assured me it was an ATX case. In addition, she gave me a free DVD reader and DVD burner (seperate units) that I will use. If I need to change the case for airflow reasons, I will. (I recently put up new blinds and a new fan in my room so my room is much, much cooler. If I need to get a new case I'll just pick up the same HAF for $30 at the local microserve.) Other than that, the order is totally unchanged. The total is $702 w/ shipping on Newegg. I plan on taking the money I save and putting it towards a high quality top-of-the-line monitor that could last me a couple of years some time down the line. [editline]5th July 2011[/editline] Also, congratulations on becoming gold, Armotekma.
I'm pretty sure any DVD Burner can also read..
I'm pretty sure any DVD Burner can also read..
Don't know, it's rather old. [editline]fuck o'clock[/editline] It's a CD burner, not a DVD burner.
Is it even SATA? Your motherboard won't be able to use it if it has an IDE connector.
Is it even SATA? Your motherboard won't be able to use it if it has an IDE connector.
Yeah, they're both SATA.
Pretty big chance its a Read/Write combo drive then.

After looking at my case, I discovered that it simply can not fit the GPU. So, I'm looking for a new one and I want to shop locally. This case is $35 at my local Micro Center. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811133094 Also looking at this, which is $40 at the same store. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119241 What the flying fuck is Facepunch doing to my posts?
You didn't buy the HAF 912?
You didn't buy the HAF 912?
I explained that before, yes. I was reading around and if the combo from before was going to come back, it would have done so by now. In addition, I was assured that the green case I had was ATX so I figured i would just try that and if it didn't work I would just buy local. Everything fit into the green case except for the GPU. [editline]7th July 2011[/editline] Or would it be worth it to just wait for a few more days and order the HAF912? It wouldn't cost me any extra than it normally would have.
You won't regret waiting for the HAF 912, those cases don't stack up against it. But if you absolutely want to build now just get whichever case is cheaper (No HAF 912s at MicroCenter?)
Nope. I'm going to shop around at other stores in the area, though. See what I can't turn up. [editline]7th July 2011[/editline] It turns out it may fit after all and I'm just really, really silly.
Currently building the computer. We may need to get some cables for the DVD drive and the HDD, but so far everything is going along without issue. The CPU, PSU, Memory, and GPU are all in properly.
Severe storms out of nowhere so I'm taking a rest for today. In the mean time...
We plugged everything in and turned the computer on, and everything appears to be in working order. We're going to try to plug a monitor in and see where that gets us. [editline]8th July 2011[/editline] Got to BIOS and it recognized every attached device. Installing Windows 7 now. [editline]8th July 2011[/editline] [editline]8th July 2011[/editline] I'm going to have to manage those cables but for now I'm golden.
Everything looks great. What resolution is that monitor BTW1280x1024?
lol cable management is going to be impossible in that case.
Everything looks great. What resolution is that monitor BTW1280x1024?
I don't know the exact res but it's temporary. I thought that instead of buying an alright monitor now I would save my money for a bit and get a great one later. [editline]8th July 2011[/editline]
lol cable management is going to be impossible in that case.
So it goes. [editline]8th July 2011[/editline] Question: Should I get the GPU drivers from HIS or AMD?
Do you live right in Philly? I'm in Bensalem about 10 minutes away.
Do you live right in Philly? I'm in Bensalem about 10 minutes away.
I do, but this is sort of irrelevant. [editline]8th July 2011[/editline] Posting from new computer. [editline]8th July 2011[/editline]
Just for fun, I tried to see what I would build with $850. This is ultimately what came out of it: (theres more) Really really like that AMD proc. The RAM seems pretty dependable too. That video card is nice also. Haha, I think I am going to save this in case I get the funds to do this.
I just ran the Crysis demo with the graphics up to 11 at 60 frames. I'm speechless.
I just ran the Crysis demo with the graphics up to 11 at 60 frames. I'm speechless.
Did you do it on that crappy monitor or on the new Acer you got? I am jelly.
Did you do it on that crappy monitor or on the new Acer you got? I am jelly.
I wound up not buying a monitor, I'm on the old Dell Ultrasharp. I want to say, though: Considering its age, the Ultrasharp is a pretty damn nice monitor.
I wound up not buying a monitor, I'm on the old Dell Ultrasharp. However, when I said that monitor was crap, I was comparing it to the 21" monitor. With the 21" no longer in the situation, that monitor is plenty good.
Bad case, shit fans and shit PSU; as well as limited upgrade options for that mobo
I agree, but I did it quick, and it is fictional. If I were to be actually buying this, I would've revised it carefully and find better options. But I wouldnt really need a new PSU, I have the Seasonic S12 600W right now. So...
