Somewhere in this thread someone posted a really nice video of some Asus gaming lap. I need to convince one of my friends that Asus is better than Alienware...The thing he dislikes about Asus is the design of them and apparently, now the looks of a laptop makes it good
Asus laptops look a fuckton better than Alienware ones.
I've got two AGP 6800GTs (Ok, fair enough, one of them is a v9999GT) just lying around here not being used, only because the fucking motherboards in the old pre-builts I received a week or two ago's motherboards haven't got a plug for the fucking fan. I mean, seriously, why?
I'll buy those for $20 each, price adjustable. My school has ancient AcerPower prebuilts with 2.8ghz Celeron D's(no hyperthreading). They have only AGP slots and currently they are all filled with GeForce 2's or the best 5 of them have Geforce 2 MXes. One even has a Geforce 6200 :hawaaaafap:. These are OUR RENDERING MACHINES! I bought a batch of Geforce 210's, 9400GT's, and a single 9500GT. However I did not know at the time that the current motherboards had only AGP slots. Also we could not put a normal ATX motherboard in there because PROPRIETARY FORMATS HNNNG! So while we have been slowly gathering PCIe equipped motherboards that also support Pentium 4's (batch of 3 2.8ghz hyperthreading ones, $15), new processors that can go in motherboards that don't support Pentiums(Core 2 Duo :woop:) and new cases to put them in, but a temporary solution that might actually let us off buying more things for a while would be very appreciated. PM me for haggling, please.

I don't even..
was just watching the xfiles, don't know what episode, it's on in the background. They pulled up a newspaper on a computer and skully picked up a red marker and drew on the screen, circling the only picture on the newspaper with smudgy red ink
:argh:
Fucking hell, the computer shop where this horror was bought removed all the Compaq stickers and put theirs instead. The S/N on the motherboard gives me no results on Google. I'm about to make a fucking wood case for this crap.

I have a strong feeling my new class is going to have a lot of content.
I just barely failed to test out of this "Programming Logic and Design". I blame it on the flowchart section.
First off, when the teacher started introducing "what this class is about", and mentions that it's the first class in the programming field, someone shouts out "This is a programming class?!?".
Second, the class content is ridiculously low-level, at least so far. The teacher seriously defined "hardware" and "software" for us. (I defined "hardware" as "any part of the computer you can kick when it stops working", in an attempt to be funny. Nobody laughed.)
Third, the teacher, when discussing the differences between an interpreted language and a compiled language, listed HTML as an interpreted language. It isn't even a programming language - it's a markup language. You can't do a for loop, you can't do a conditional, you can't do a function call. Not. A. Programming. Language.
Fourth, this is apparently an entire class about writing pseudocode and drawing flowcharts. I'm considering doing all the work in assembly pseudocode, just to be an asshole. I'm also drawing my flowcharts on a Metric grid, not US, for the same reasons.
Fifth, the assignment for today was "write the pseudocode and draw a flowchart for a program that reads in a number, multiplies it by ten, and prints the result out". It took me five minutes, including figuring out how to make Visio left-align a text box. It took some people two hours.
On the bright side, this will give me plenty of time to work on personal projects.

As a side note (not really to do with computers), This happened in Physics today:
Prof: "Now, let me show you what a propagating wave is. When I tap this table with my hand..."
*WHAM*
*thunk*
"...the intercom falls off. Huh."
I get to choose between computer systems and information systems. computer systems is more advanced and information systems is basically office shit :v:
What do?
Computer systems
it's a scottish higher btw

Information systems bored the shit out of me in my first year of college. It was literally about why databasing, spreadsheets and that kind of stuff is used, and what laws to abide by when working with data.
Comp sys.

Reminds me of my Digital Photography 1 class.
During the two weeks we had to put together our final project (portfolio, with Windows Movie Maker), I finished it in two days, got a B+ (because I didn't feel like putting music in), and spent the rest of the time playing the Quake 3 Arena demo someone lovingly left on the computer's hard drive (and complaining inwardly because I lacked my fourth mouse button and had to use the inferior WSAD to move).

I feel your pain. Although I bet you don't have to write your code on paper first though. Mind you, we (so far) have not had to create system flow charts or DFDs outside of theory months.
Today I was talking to a guy I know and asked him what OS he was running and he said 'Telus'.

@Gman003
I see no content in the flowcharting & pseudocode part. You need to learn the very basics of programming first (which you already did judging by your CPU thread and posts), like how does a for cycle work, how to make a properly structured code, etc... After that, you can program in almost every language in a basic level after learning the syntax of the language. You won't even touch any language in the first half a-year just fyi.

I think he's anticipating content from the students.

Here's the thing: I learned proper coding habits by using them in actual code. I learned how all those things worked by doing them in C++. I see pseudocode as useful only for providing a language-independent way to define an algorithm. Flowcharts are useless for coding as well, at least when done statement-by-statement. I can see them being useful on very large projects with very broad statements, but when it takes more flowchart symbols to accomplish something than it does lines of code, there is something seriously wrong.
After that, you can program in almost every language in a basic level after learning the syntax of the language.
Explains how I can understand 30+ programming languages well enough to hunt down bugs, even if I rarely use half of them.

Actually, I'm scheduled for Java in five weeks. And I already had a "class" on HTML/CSS, which (according to my teacher) is a programming language.

That's actually what I meant. But I think I'll get some content from the teacher as well.
Oh well. Gives me time to work on my next super-informative thread.

But whyyyyy? The whole point of minecraft is that there's no story and no bitching around with objectives and such, you only need to survive and make awesome things.
