Dell DVI Splitter:
[img_thumb]http://www.computer-reclaim.co.uk/ekmps/shops/comprec/images/338285-002.jpg[/img_thumb]
Our new school computers have one DVI output, our 24" Dell monitors, have one DVI input. Out school has these DVI splitters connected to the out, and then a DVI cable connecting one of the splits to the monitor. The other "split" just sits there. Why the fuck...I don't...
Do we go to the same school?
well you both seem to be in a special needs school so it's not far fetched

These connectors usually comes with the graphics card. If it did, then I don't see why your school needs to waste more money just to buy a single-port adapter

Dell made a fortune from your school, they only cost ~$3 to manufacture and probably sold them to the school for $20+ a pop.

Back at my high school, I helped install a lab of new Dells. The dongles came with the computers, literally packed in the same box. While replacements are probably overpriced, they do give you the first one free.
So it's a case of "It came in the box, it obviously has to be used to work"?
The machines we do our graphics rendering work have 2.6GHz Pentium 4s, 512mb RAM and an 80GB HDD. The school also ordered 40 in a go. The service tag lookup is useful.

Actually, it does. The connector that's on the cards is incompatible with every monitor or display every made. It kinda has to - it's (essentially) two DVI ports crammed into one. Very small pins, closely packed. It looks like DVI from a distance, but it isn't.

God damn it, Dell.
In my school, all the computers still have stickers with Windows Vista Enterprise CD keys

:what:
In our school, you can tell when they bought the computers, going by whether they have Vista or 7 stickers, despite them all having XP.
Going back to school in a few days, there will be content.
I always do that, but sometimes my computer wakes up randomly. Probably because my mouse moved one fourth of a millimeter.
Go into the device manager, find your mouse, properties, find "allow this device to wake the computer" and uncheck it.
Now you can throw your mouse across the room without turning your PC on

Why would I want to throw my pet across the room :crying:

Whenever something annoys me to a certain point, I throw my mouse across the room (it hits my bed, so it won't break).

I know a lot of schools that are like that.
I wonder if a wood case would be a good idea...
I'm about to throw this motherboard in the trash. There's nothing about it if I search its serial number, the screw layout seems proprietary, the current case has no fans and is missing well, everything except the frame. I want to do something with this thing, all the other computers I picked up are shit :saddowns:
Also a bit of content : I argued with a guy about Alienware laptops, he absolutely wanted one, I told him to look at some other brand like MSI or ASUS but he said they were shit compared to Alienware. Then I said Alienware was part of Dell and that their products, especially laptops weren't exactly the best. He started saying how Dell was the best brand even with desktops and how his Alienware laptop would kick my computer's ass any day :froggonk:

wait a minute, I didn't even check the BIOS info for the exact model. Damn I'm dumb.
I just found my CoD 4 Jewel Case, it had my Ubuntu Live CD in it. :v:

Is the CoD4 cd in the Ubuntu case?
My mate got his stationary for school, and looked through his computing coursebook and looked at the test questions..
"A piece of hardware which connects your computer to a phone line so that data can be easily transferred is called a phone?"
What is a 'browser'?"
What does <html> do?
"Is a mouse part of the software?"
"How do you refresh a web page?"
"Is the monitor hardware?"
"How do you rename a file?"
"How do you delete a file?"
"How do you move files?"
"What does ISP stand for?"
"What does www stand for?"
lol
Is the CoD4 cd in the Ubuntu case?
No, it was under the Ubuntu CD.
I'm helping a friend build his new computer over the phone, guiding him through it and such. He did all the basic shit like dropping in the motherboard long before calling me (it remains to be seen whether or not he used standoffs, but he mentioned that his pci/e cards all line up right so he probably did). Anyway, the content comes here: he spent 20 minutes trying to figure out how to install the rear I/O panel cover, only to eventually realize that he has to put it in before installing the motherboard.
Oh, and he's apparently been working on building it for the past 3 hours, it's normally a 45 minute job.

At least your friend builds it.
When I made a build to my friend, I gave him clear instructions and linked him to www.pcityourself.com but he freaked out and let his dad build it. His dad doesn't even know what's inside a computer so he plugged almost everything wrong. He took it to a computer shop and they fixed it for him even though listening to what I was saying would have made things a lot easier and cheaper too.

yeah if it doesn't boot I'll go check it out tomorrow, probably will end up completely reassembling it as neither of us are particularly good at explaining things nor following directions.
If I'm not mistaken he's in the process of installing Windows 7 as we speak. that or struggling to get the side panel back on properly as I often do.
What's hard about putting a side panel back on?
What's hard about putting a side panel back on?
Some cases are evil. Mine goes on easiest when it's on its side.
What's hard about putting a side panel back on?
For whatever reasons, the thumbscrews on my HAF 932 are extremely tight. And the side seems a bit off, which would be the reason for the tight screws.

getting the rails on both sides lined up is impossible

Have you tried it when it's laying down? Works so much better for me.
