Our IT class computers have 4 GB of RAM, C2D E8400 3GHz, NVidia Quadro FX 1500.
They run at 1024x768 on 19 inch monitors; We learn Word (with 1996 books).
Our IT computers has 4GB of RAM, the best i3, and Intel HD graphics.
We have limited administrator accounts, and can set our own resolutions, and choose our own way of studying for the exam.
:smug:
Our IT room has optiplex 980's with i7's, 4gb of ram, and the 1024mb 4550's listed on their site. We also receive full administrative permissions and some of us get to use some of the unused ones as servers for various games.
I love this school.
We use P4s with I think about 512mb of ram and are learning VB using VB 1998 or something.

Same for us, except we don't have any computer related courses since the teacher freaked out and punched some guy.
So a while ago I went over how I was able to partially get around blocks in my school. Found the most stupid way ever.
https://www.facebook.com isn't blocked. Nor is https://www.youtube.com or anything with https://...
So, the system administrator has had to follow me around for the past 3 days, watching EVERYTHING I do... They think I'm a hacker :downs:

In contrast, one teacher in our school still has a PC running Windows 2000 and Office 2000, while all the other computers are on XP and Office 2007 along with Adobe Photoshop CS4. I actually have no clue why on this one. Most teachers have at least Core 2 Duos, and/or a tablet PC.
But thank god for the Core 2 Duos. They finally replaced these:

These were still widely used up until last year. At least it naturally deterred kids from playing flash games and Youtube. They didn't have enough RAM to do either.

I have a question, literate people.
I've been "asked" to give a presentation on open-source OSes to the Network Security Club. Since there's actually a class on Linux at the school, I was going to bring in my OpenBSD box. Anything in particular I should show/tell them? I was thinking I could demonstrate how to set up a simple Samba server (I "liberated" a new hard drive I can use for an install), but something like Kerberos or a web proxy might be better for NetSec types.

Lightspeed systems cannot block https://
/etc/hosts.deny
That's how I messed up my elementary school's blocks. (By messed up I mean removed.)
They called in 5 or 6 linux techs before resorting to asking the students.
I fixed it, but that was 4 weeks after I'd done it. Never got caught.

Why did I quote LinuX?
Lightspeed systems cannot block https://
That explains why he's following me. Thank you for the info. Regardless, he could always set it up so that I can't use the internet.
Granted I have Chrome OS still...

oh god our school still has those imac mini things that have the handles on the top and came in a few different colors

and only like 10 windows computers that have processors that are barely 2 ghz
2 of these

and 2 of the macs on the rotatable balls that thermal out like every fucking day
and since the xp computers are ALWAYS TAKEN i can never get any useless programming done
Our school has the i3 iMacs
Don't hate on the white eMacs. I use one as a media center in my room.
Got it for free from my principal.

i was mainly hating on the imacs but whatever
the emacs ACTUALLY WORK AND OSX DOES NOT TAKE UP MOST OF THE RESOURCES AVAILABLE :|
[editline]27th January 2011[/editline]
and i would talk to my principal about taking two of the computers just sitting there but they're "school district property"

Well, the eMac I got was hers that the school bought for her. She then bought a $5,000 Mac pro(whatever the fucking one with a legit tower is called) and gave me the eMac for free because I wanted one to see what OS X is like since I hadn't used a Mac since 9.2(at school, one of the colored ones like in your first post.)

Hey now, that was my first computer, I loved it. I had the 500mhz slot loading one, it ran OS X and 9.2 snappily, even with full screen flash games. Plus every school one of those I have ever seen had Kid Pix on it, and that cannot be beat. In fact, I'm gonna go find a copy of Kid Pix Studio Deluxe and install it on the iMac I have sitting in the corner of my room right now.

™
I had Warcraft when I was a kid.
I didn't know what the fuck to do but it was pretty fun.
Speaking of KidPix: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/kid-pix-deluxe-3d/id406222580?mt=12
It's fucking $49
That's not the same KidPix we used to have

:wtc: how can it be an original iMac with no kidpix??? UNTHINKABLE :frogsiren:
Me (explaining explaining how to access mr. doob's harmony from home): You probably shouldn't use Internet Explorer to access it. Try Firefox or maybe even Google Chrome.
Girl: But what if I don't have Firefox?
Me: Just download it.
Girl: Doesn't that cost money?
At this point both me and two of my friends are facepalming so hard
Me: Nope. It's free.
Girl: But how do they make money?
Me (not feeling like explaining search ads and the concept of open source): They don't need to get money from you.
Girl: BUT IT'S THE INTERNET!!!
I don't remember the rest of the conversation exactly, but we eventually figured out that she thought the "internet" was just a web browser. She thought the internet was her computer. She also thinks she knows things about computers, and often sides with macs. I think it's just because they're shiny. I'm not sure why she didn't ask me if I was a wizard when I was accessing everything on 3G with my Cr-48.
