Yo, triple boot. Windows XP, Vista and Ubuntu (lol sucky distro). And I got a Mac. I can comment on all three. I prefer Mac OS, but I mainly use Windows on my laptop because most of my shit works with it

I don't see any use for it, except , yeah, a fancy UI. Every program I'm using has an equivalent on Windows, which is either the same or better.
I think it has less programs, but higher quality ones. Like Pixelmator or Adium for example

Because some XP programes dont work in anything later, also XP is awesome.
-bleh wrong thread-
Why Windows XP?
Because it's an old laptop
I'm tired of XP. I mean, it's god damn 10 years old! [editline]2nd January 2011[/editline] The only thing I don't like about Windows 7 is RAM usage, of course it's a good thing when RAM is being utilized, but on my netbook with only 1GB, I don't know about that...I'm gonna upgrade to 2GB soon because of this
XP with a nice theme, and I dont see the problem with it.
Bullshit, I tried that for the first time yesterday and it wouldnt run much at all.

Hence why it actually runs on 512MB systems.
sudo apt-get wine im only guessing
I'm using Ubuntu so I just grabbed it through the software manager.
Just use WINE in Linux. It's almost perfect now days.
WINE: Wine is not enough. It ran a few simple games and Steam, along with a few other little applications I use. Though when I tried to use Office 2007 with it, I managed to install it but it didn't run. It's amazing how well it works, though it's far from "Almost Perfect".
XP with a nice theme, and I dont see the problem with it.
I really want to comment on the Theme part, but people will take it personally or something. But, I liked using Windows XP when it came out as well... After using Windows 7, when I go back to Windows XP to repair someones older computer it drives me insane. When you compare Windows XP with Windows 7, it makes you wonder how you ever used Windows XP until you realize, there wasn't anything else available.
Is that a photoshop or is it a real cable? :ohdear:
I believe this is a cable for broadband over power lines
I'm using Ubuntu so I just grabbed it through the software manager.
The software manager is always slacking at the latest stable release, which at this point is.. old as hell. Go to WineHQ, instructions on how to install it are there.
Or Microsoft windows - Good for people who don't know better Linux - Great for people who know too much/better Mac OS - A powerful OS hidden behind a dumbass facade, between Windows and Linux
Or (in my opinion, some people is gonna hate this) Windows - Most applications is made for it, but it has alot of problems Linux - Stable and all, but not very user-friendly, and alot of applications and games doesnt support it Mac - Haven't tested it
Hey how bout this: Windows - Good for everything Linux - Good for everything OS X - Good for everything Now shut up about which god damn operating system you prefer and post content
OS X will play games by mainstream developers? if so then it is good for everything.
I WANNA JUMP ON THE PRO/CON OS BANDWAGON TOO!!! Windows Pros: If you want to do anything on your computer, Windows has a program for it. Control your toaster? There's a program for it. Play Fallout NV with the sound clips in reverse? There's a program for it. Cons: A mite unstable at times. Needs reinstalled every few months or so to clean out the gunk. Notes: Even if you prefer another OS, it's good to have a Windows install lying around just to be sure you can do something. Linux Pros: It's only unstable if a driver is badly made. Otherwise, you have to actually be trying if you want it to crash. If you know what you're doing you can crack open the source code and change it around. Extremely secure, and no viruses currently exist beyond proof of concept. Cons: Due to the fact that Linux users are in the minority, not many individuals/organizations code Linux versions for programs compared to Windows. As such, it's lacking in programs. WINE exists if you absolutely NEED to do something (see Windows pros) but it's nowhere near finished so you have a 50% chance. Notes: BSD is included in this, though it's technically not Linux. Added small con in that Linux code doesn't "just work" with BSD, but minor due to the ports available. OS X (Warning: Low Experience Here) Pros: SHINY. Runs off FreeBSD, inherit's stability. Designed to make it easy for computer illiterates to use, whether they're 5 year olds, old grandpas, or just plain retards. Cons: It took me a LONG TIME to find anything more advanced in settings than "Change your wallpaper". While I'm sure the intention was good (prevent aforementioned illiterates from changing something on accident and screwing their Mac over), it only bugged me to no end. Has checks to make sure it only runs on Apple hardware, which means you have to pay too much to get a Mac. Notes: As I said before, I have low experience with OS X compared to everything else. In particular, only about a week total (about three weekends staying with my uncle). I tried to get OS X running on a VM but my processor's too old and doesn't support the virtualization things VirtualBox needs. Most of my information on Macs comes from FP, so that's why it's so con-biased. If someone wants a non-biased view, they'd have to buy me a Macbook (no room for a full desktop)

A few games like sim city 4, myst and games made by Indie developers, oh and source games. Not a massive selection is it?

There we go, "windows". Windows has a wide selection of games, office utilities, tools, graphic design packages, software synthesizers, drum machines and music trackers. You need to boot into windows to play games because OS X simply cant, which proves my point.
for tech illiterates it's impossible especially tech illiterate mac users
There's those videos with people in turtlenecks on a white background taking you through Boot Camp to install Windows.
