It's apparently intended to replace racks of servers with a single mainframe running a few hundred VMs. It says 50 servers per core is a reasonable expectation.
On their quote request page, the drop-down box for "what function will this server provide?" includes server consolidation, data consolidation, data protection, web applications, disaster tolerance/security, data sharing/universal data access, database/research applications, and other. Apparently, "supervillainy" isn't a common response, although I can imagine possibilities with something like this.
Also on the quote request page, the menu for "estimated external disk storage" ranges from "<10TB" to ">100TB".
Instead of my Folding@Home comment, I was very tempted to post "Holy crap, that thing is a datacenter in a box."
I would have been closer to its actual purpose, however, I thought PermanentPress@Home was pretty funny.

Fuck VM's I'd be running one massive calculation, Fuck I'd get 2, Run them in a small cloud and calculate Pi.

I doubt you would need 2. Thing would probably find the end of Pi... (not content by the way, tis a joke.)
Holy crap you guys should check this out.
I was wandering around Wikipedia, looking for info about overclocking (how much of a power draw increase could you expect for a certain increase in clock speed), and discovered the most insane computer ever devised:
The IBM zEnterprise 196 M80
Featuring:
24 quad-core 5.2 gHz processors
Every core has 1.5MB of L2 Cache (most current i7s have 256KB)
Every processor has 24MB of L3 Cache (most current i7s have 8MB, some have 12MB)
You can add 96MB of L4 Cache to each processor
3 usable terabytes of RAM in a setup that's pretty much RAID for memory
Liquid-cooling optional
Can run Linux (Red Hat or SuSE) or z/OS.
Some of those things don't even seem possible. Seriously, did IBM hire a mad scientist just to come up with these specs? If there wasn't a page where I could request a price quote, I would nominate IBM as content for this thread. Because this shit is BANANAS. 5.2gHz, on air cooling? More RAM than most people have disc space? Enough processing power to run a small country?
I almost forgot what I was browsing Wikipedia for in the first place.
But the question is, Can it run Crysis?
Overused and not funny joke.
Overused and not funny joke.
UH i wondor if it could...
The problem with apple mice is that left click and right click arnt seperated well, its sort of lean the mouse this way, or lean it the other way to click. I like having two simple buttons.

No because no GPU :science:

It can't, it has no GPU.

Software mode?
Oh god what, my frankencomp is booting up randomly, by itself :ohdear:
Let's hope it doesn't start up when unplugged 'cause then I'm getting an exorcist.
Which side are you on? :ohdear:
OpenGL.
Anyway, my MacBook Pro arrived (I need it for school and they only let us buy MacBooks).
Any knowledgeable Mac fellows willing to throw some tips and advice my way?

KILL IT, KILL IT WITH FIRE!
Getting rid of the heatsink and the fans should do it.
Unless it's not a dell...

That's the problem, it has no fans, and the heatsink is glued on the CPU :ohdear:
Damn you Compaq, damn you to hell :argh:

Install Windows using Boot Camp or Steam if you want to play some games on it. :v:

a Negative amount of peers?
I hate people that automatically infer that a product is better because it's number is higher or something.
Fun fact: Black Ops is poorly optimized for nvidia GPU's I actually get more performance in it than my friend with GTX 460 does, I have a HD4830.
This certainly looks fake. If it isn't, kill your friend.
Anyone has an idea why my comp is booting up by itself? It's starting to scare the shit out of me...
Example: My friend.
Him - I got a GT 9600!
Me - It is old. And it's not very good by today's standards.
Him - You high? It was at a convention and just released a few months ago.
Me - No... *proceeds to google GT 9600 release date, shows him 2008.
Him - Whatever, it is still amazing.
Me - A GTS 250 or a lower range 4xx series can easily beat it
Him - Lol no. My GT 9600 is NINE THOUSAND. GTS 250 is TWO HUNDRED.
Me - *kills self*

And no it isn't. He usually is not that annoying, but when it comes to tech, he definitely annoys me in the Subway line.

Shit, where did my post go. And he brags about his 3d computer at his dad's workplace or something.

Use Expose to it's fullest potential. It is incredibly useful. Also, make sure to turn your screen brightness down a few clicks when running on battery for an extended period of time. With screen brightness around half, you gain 25-40% battery life over it on full.

If your computer is directly connected to the internet, it is possible that someone is sending you Wake-on-LAN packets.
It has no network adapter and I disabled wake-up from the network :ohdear:

Check your case to make sure it isn't coming into contact with the any of the circuits on the motherboard. You may have a short somewhere that keeps sending the power-on signal.
