I want to learn Java, what is a good book to pick up from Barnes and Nobles for cheap. If not a book, maybe a website?
I want to learn Java, what is a good book to pick up from Barnes and Nobles for cheap. If not a book, maybe a website?
Why Java?

"hey we captured that point, get your asses moving or the enemy will keep trapping you ther- NO DON'T REVIVE ME IN FRONT OF A TANK!"
More in the line of "hey the objective is here I'll just switch to this guy and sneak around to have a-- hey don't go back to the beginning! No, don't go into the water! Get out of the vehicle, no don't sit in that other vehicle in the other end of the map! aagargg" [editline]8th January 2011[/editline] Wtf just happened wasn't this a BF thread? [editline]8th January 2011[/editline]
If I remember right, the article about it was posted back in V6 or V7, and it was average PC gamers vs. top console gamers, the PC gamers dominated even when both were playing on console. That I recall the sentiment from Shadowrun players being there was only really a noticeable difference in sniping.
I want to learn Java, what is a good book to pick up from Barnes and Nobles for cheap. If not a book, maybe a website?
I got Java for Dummies many years ago. I was able to make a room full of bouncing balls :frogc00l:
java can be pretty useful
It's very impractical unless you are into web programming, or is purposely looking for a multiplatform solution that needs little to no effort in porting.
I think notch would like to have a word with you. :colbert:
Doesn't fix the fact that Minecraft is unoptimised as fuck due to Java being fucking impossible when it comes to multithreaded code. It may run well to you, but it should not run at 5FPS when using a Pentium 4 and a 5800GS at minimum view distance. It's fucking cubes and sprites.

2 ghz Core 2 duo, integrated graphics, 4 Gigabytes of RAM 5-10 FPS :saddowns:
Part of minecrafts Lagginess is Java but another part is Notch's scripting, I mean look at the performance drop when he released the beta update, Hopefully this will be fixed with the new beta updates, seeing though a lot of beta will be polishing.
I think notch would like to have a word with you. :colbert:
I like how whenever people questions the usefulness of Java, Minecraft always pops up. Games like that can be made with almost any language that supports 3D graphics of some sort, as long as the programmer knows the language well enough.
I made a Console only / COD only fag play Counter Strike : CZ, he fucking sucked even on easy, even deleted scenes on easy. Needless to say that was a good day. Oh god that rhymes.

I have a hard time believing that 20 MB of memory is enough to boot Windows XP, but you got the pictures so I guess I have to believe it.
I have a hard time believing that 20 MB of memory is enough to boot Windows XP
Its not, when you install windows it detects that you have low RAM and changes the settings of everything to take less RAM And you have a pagefile of course, but the OS should boot within 15 mb
I'm about to do this in a VM. [editline]8th January 2011[/editline] Just the 16MB Ram thingy, Don't know how to set Processor speed in VirtualBox, Or if you even can. [editline]8th January 2011[/editline] Or maybe I'm not.
Can anyone explain what the difference is between a 32-bit architecture and a 64-bit one is? (other than RAM limitations)?
Can anyone explain what the difference is between a 32-bit architecture and a 64-bit one is? (other than RAM limitations)?
Get gman to do it, He'll give a huge page stretcher.
You can't install XP on low RAM and stuff. But you can take stuff out later, and it will work. Thats how they made it over there... I remember reading the article about it. Might gonna search it again. I also remember that they said it booted up for 15 minutes, and then loaded programs and stuff for 15 minutes.
This thread is pretty much the general computer talk thread nowadays? I was hiding from this thread for a while after my last computer "accident".
