I'm about to do this in a VM.

Just the 16MB Ram thingy, Don't know how to set Processor speed in VirtualBox, Or if you even can.

Or maybe I'm not.
Try 32mb, you might even need a special windows XP disk where the setup runs with the little RAM you have
This thread is pretty much the general computer talk thread nowadays? I was hiding from this thread for a while after my last computer "accident".
It pretty much is that thread because it IS General chat, Check the top of the OP.

Oh, I missed that. So I guess this thread is pretty much out of content?
Well, time to get posting. I have installed ubuntu on my portable HDD so I can bring it to school and use it for work instead of the shitty Windows XP they have there.
And did you destroy partitions in the process?
And did you destroy partitions in the process?
No, it created a .disk file instead.
Apparently, Windows 7 can run with as little as 256MB of ram :aaaaa:

I'm so proud, You're growing up.
I'm so proud, You're growing up.
I also installed wine so I could run steam on it :D
The main reason i "failed" the install the last time I tried was because I raged due to my HDD being wiped due to my bad reading.
He installed it through Wubi, he isn't grown up.
He installed it through Wubi, he isn't grown up.
What?
I think I should stop here before I say something stupid.
oops, I think I already did.
Don't feel bad, at least you admitted it was all your fault last time.
[editline]8th January 2011[/editline]
What?
You installed Ubuntu inside of Windows, letting you uninstall it like a normal Windows program.
Not only is this method unstable, it is also the pussy way to do it.
1) Work on some code for a while. Don't comment it AT ALL.
2) Take a break from working on it.
3) Come back 2 months later.
4) WHAT THE FUCK AM I READING
He installed it through Wubi, he isn't grown up.
It's still better than destroying a hard drive, anyway He's learning to be safer.
When my stepdads WoW icon dissapeared, he Downloaded WoW again. I just laughed.

In Virtualbox there's no way to change the CPU speed or anything because it gives the VM direct access to your CPU through your CPU's virtualization technology. Only way to change the processor speed in Virtualbox would be to change it on your own CPU, but that's just plain dumb.
I've been running this current rig for six years now, which means I built it when I was 13. I only just now realised that I've been running it all this time with only an output fan and no input.
I was a stupid kid.
Also I just discovered that my ethernet cable has been resting beneath a row of besser blocks for a few years now too.

I didn't put an input fan on my current build now. Didn't really need one.
Mine just has a vent pointed at the CPU fan and the Output
[editline]9th January 2011[/editline]
And I've got a GTX 480 in it

If your temps are fine I see no reason to add more fans.

You're judging someones skills on something that isn't even done yet, I think you should leave.

apt-get out
I'd be really nice to get one of the amazing C++ programmers in the Programming section and have them code an alternative. I'm sure their code would be much faster, better, etc., etc.
I can't really see why people actually pay money for an unoptimized piece of shit known as Minecraft. Sure, it's fun, but the cons exceedingly weight out the positives.
He's coding in Java for a start, it's been under development for a year and a half I would expect the rendering code to be optimized by now.
The networking is extremely stupid as well, he's using big-endian for his data instead of a normal small-endian used by nearly everything else. He also sends too many bytes. In general he just creates unoptimized games with a brilliant idea.
Yes, It's been under dev for a year and a half now, But what about DNF? 12 years? It's still not fucking complete, Judge when it's done.

It's a pre-order, The access to the current build of the game is an extra.
It's very impractical unless you are into web programming, or is purposely looking for a multiplatform solution that needs little to no effort in porting.
What Java has to do with web programming? You're mixing up JavaScript and Java which are totally different languages.
Get gman to do it, He'll give a huge page stretcher.
Someone call for me?
Main differences are as follows:
1) All general-purpose registers are increased to 64 bits instead of 32 bits. This means stuff like long ints can be used more easily; most compilers actually increase the default size of an int on 64-bit code.
2) Eight additional general-purpose registers are available; this speeds up code that works on a lot of data significantly. Eight more SSE registers are ALSO added.
3) SSE and SSE2 support is mandatory; programs can assume that they will work without having any problems.
4) The "No-Execute" flag is also made mandatory; this allows operating systems to flag sections of memory as "data only" - attempting to execute this code results in an error. This is a major security feature.
5) A bunch of really old options are removed, like Virtual 8086 mode and segmented addressing.

He means as an alternative to flash.

I expected the list to be bigger, Atleast with you, You freakin' genius.

Then you're a fucking ignorant idiot.

Meh, I'm still waking up. I can only manage "slightly-above-average" right now; I only reach genius once I get my caffeine.
