For one, you're assured that the former will generally work properly. The latter, no such guarantee. Also, if a game is fun, you can overlook a number of bugs. Like with New Vegas - good game, terrible coding. At least, that's what I've heard; I haven't played NV yet.

When I was working on a project, I would let other people look at it and they would JUDGE it, aka criticism. That way I knew what I needed to do differently. They're judging a part that is constantly changing, If it was the concept then sure, It's good to judge.

Sure, Notch's methods may be... impractical, to say the least, but if people are willing to pay for a game, it's not doing you any harm, and well done for getting people to invest in an unfinished product of debatable quality, and congratulations on winning PC Gamer game of the year.
