wasn't there a .700 something cartridge made specifically for elephant hunting?
Wait, this is a computer thread... So yeah, today I cleaned a smoker's computer and all I can say is :barf:
[editline]8th January 2011[/editline]
and it really wasn't worth it, the only thing good in there was a Rage II
I would imagine it would look something like this:

a bit less than that :barf:
The layout of the parts was so fucked up. Who puts the HDD right under the PSU, seriously.

Under the PSU? How'd he manage to do that?
In almost all of the cases I've seen the PSU is either under the motherboard (and right under too, not much space above) or a bit above it (some space there, but why would you put an HDD in a position like that?).

I know, at first I thought there was no HDD and that the thing was running on floppy disks or LiveCDs, then when I was touching around for random cables I felt a circuit board and the HDD was there :byodood:
If I ever get some time to put it back together I'm gonna take a picture.
Anyone has any idea how to get rid of the smell? 80 PSI of air got most of the dust and shitty cigarette residue but it still smells like shit.

Shove about 30 car fresheners in the bottom of it?

I doubt you're getting rid of the smell. It'll always be there haunting you.
Yes, I meant that. What I was saying was "if you're going to use a cartridge that large and unwieldy (the FBI switched from it because the recoil was too high), you may as well use the biggest and most unwieldy cartridge commonly available".
10 mm auto isn't a big and unwieldy cartridge. and the FBI never officially used 10 mm auto, only experimentally in target ranges. they've always used .38 Special LSWCHP+P or, more recently, .40 S&W 180g JHP rounds
Ahem, Computer talk, not gun talk. Take it to the gun thread in GD.
Damnit, my comp won't detect my phone...
Wow, is it a common problem with HTC Desire Z's to only be detected on start-up?
Ahem, Computer talk, not gun talk. Take it to the gun thread in GD.
guns are technology.
guns are technology.
So is the wheel but I don't go on saying how mine is rounder than yours :colbert:
guns are technology.
Except we're talking about computers, a specific part of technology, but not the generalized topic.
Now bugger off to the gun thread.

This elf speaks the truth. When I moved out, I turned down a couch for €10 because of nicotine smell. My mom told me the only way to get rid of the smell is to burn the entire thing, and I'm allergic to nicotine so I wouldn't want to live in that kind of atmosphere...
So is the wheel but I don't go on saying how mine is rounder than yours :colbert:
because you would be wrong, mine is clearly rounder.
Now I begin to think that this thread was better off in FT, where we actually talked about computer illiteracy.

Oh you.

But didn't it get moved out by the mods?

No.
Anyone has any idea how to get rid of the smell? 80 PSI of air got most of the dust and shitty cigarette residue but it still smells like shit.
I had to do the same thing once. After cleaning all the crap out of it, i just let it air out for a few days. As long as it stays in clean air and is getting good airflow, it /should/ be okay in as little as a few hours to as much as maybe two days or so.
it got moved out because nobody in ft knows what's computer illiteracy and what isn't
Picture of the odd HDD rack (also notice the RAM sticks placed oddly right under it )

Picture of the Rage II (I fucking love vintage stuff :buddy:)

And bonus picture of my :byodood: mousepad

Yep, all jpeg, deal with it since that's what my phone uses :smug:
FYI : It's pretty hard to fap with the :byodood: looking at you.
oh man, Is that motherboard slot 1? oh god, Nostalgia.
jpeg isn't actually that bad. As long as the quality is high enough, it can mimic non-alpha PNG images and still be smaller.
oh man, Is that motherboard slot 1? oh god, Nostalgia.
Where do you see a slot-style CPU socket?
oh man, Is that motherboard slot 1? oh god, Nostalgia.
I thought it was, but it isn't, on the right of the first picture you can see the CPU's fan. Under it it says something like "Socket 17"
Though my frankencomp has a Slot 1 mobo.
it got moved out because nobody in ft knows what's computer illiteracy and what isn't
No one knows what computer illiteracy is here...
no but it appears to have SIMMs. I'd put it at around 1996.
no but it appears to have SIMMs. I'd put it at around 1996.
If you're talking about my smelly horror of a computer, the Rage II says 1997 and it was factory installed.

wow SIMMs that late? it must have been a piece of shit when he bought it
wow SIMMs that late? it must have been a piece of shit when he bought it
It was a POS pre-built from Elegant. 133 Mhz and ~16 MB of RAM isn't going to do much as a file server :smith:
them .txts with 'hello' and 'sup' now have their own special place.
