It's basically the Xbox Live e-peen. You have to buy Microsoft Points to purchase anything from the store

When I have enough money for my build, I am going to use my old computer to host all my steam game files and a game server. What distro of linux would be best suited for this? <- linux nub
I would say Ubuntu is the best multipurpose distro for beginners and noobs. Works great for basic hosting too

I'm the one who overwrote their MBR trying to install Linux. :downs:

Just install Samba, Set privileges and mount as network drive, it's what I do, much easier than going into FTP all the fucking time.
Oh my god I love this guy. If you're going to run a linux server it would be best not to use the GUI. It takes some time to get used to it. Many distributions have a lot of documentation. I would recommend Ubuntu server edition. It makes the server installation process rather easy. It doesn't give you a GUI interface tho. As for what wingless said. Samba is a piece of software that allows you to create network shares. Setting up SSH would also be a good idea. It will allow you to connect remotely. There are also a few extra steps needed to make the srcds start on boot. I shouldn't be too hard. There is a learning curve but you should get it quickly. Also, ubuntu is very documented so it's a good choice.
I'll be setting up a dedicated Minecraft server as soon as I get a power supply for it (Buying from some guy not far from where I live) My original plan was to hook the server up to my main screen, then connect it to the internet and install TeamViewer. The rest I could do from my PC. It seems like a good plan to me, but I'm no expert. But would using Linux be a better idea?

Dear god what the fuck :psypop: I guess registration for that is just a 1 minute form?
Brb registering and then making a Facepunch web browser. The special user useability feature is the automatic redirection to Facepunch.

And run minecraft server in a screen session.
I think I'll just get ubuntu with the GUI, I want to have steam running on it.
I think I'll just get ubuntu with the GUI, I want to have steam running on it.
why do you want to run steam? ughuguhgghhg
Linux would be perfect for that, instead of TeamViewer you could simply use SSH to connect and have no interface for the server. [editline]10th January 2011[/editline]
Don't use Teamviewer, Just use a VNC Setup.
I have no idea how to do that. What is SSH? What is a screen session?
SSH is basically a remote terminal, if you know what I mean...
why do you want to run steam? ughuguhgghhg
I have shit-loads of games and my family gets pissed when I download them, so I want to keep backups. I also want to run a game server. It's a fucking studio 540 what the hell else do I do with it? Plus people will think I am the shit if I have a server with all my stuff on it. Hehe, people are stupid.
