WAY better then Vista's. Now my Win. 7 desktop has the Sonic 3 and Knuckles title screen theme as the login. Along with an entire Genesis-generation Sonic sound set. Ah, the wonders of 28.8 kilobits per second. Because the phone lines were too low-quality to handle 56k.

I only heard it so much because my grandmother (bless her heart) used Dial up from AOL well into the XP years. She switched to Time Warner Cable like.... 3 or so years before Vista came out on the market. Well she can use Dial Up all she wants now in heaven.... ;_;

So much nostalgia with dial-up :buddy: I remember when my bro found an exploit with Bell's network, if you blocked the connection with the firewall, you could still access the net but the usage wasn't logged so we could play Starcraft 24/7 without going over our 50 hours cap. Also a bit of content from the teachers at school : There's this one teacher who thinks he's some kind of computer god since he took a course about Office a few years ago. Now, our physic teacher wanted to play a video with a 3D animation in it, the tech god offered to convert the VHS to a .avi. He did manage to make a video file but it was broken, he also broke the original VHS. He didn't abandon his quest to make the video work. In some kind of brain fart, he thought "the video contains a 3D animation, so that means I could open it with a 3D modeling program!". The next day while looking at the programs list I noticed something odd : Google Sketchup 6 (At the time sketchup 7 was out btw). I thought that was pretty odd since we don't have any design/modeling courses. Fast forward to my physics course, the tech god teacher enters the room and goes to talk with the other teacher. I'm pretty close to them so I manage to hear what they say : "So I've tried everything to get your video playing but it just won't work. I even tried Google Ketchups" "Uhh what's that?" "It's some kind of advanced video playing program for 3D animations!" Not really funny but I facepalmed so hard I wonder if I hit the guy behind me.

In order to get my degree, I have to take a basic computer class. I also have to take it to start any web programming classes. Last night I was looking through the book to see what we might be doing today. The book is designed to go with Microsoft Office 2007. I know that 2010 is out, but 2007 is still going to be used. Then I saw what operating system was being used with the book: Windows XP. Who the fuck uses XP anymore?! Admittedly, my old desktop is XP, but that's because I don't feel like dishing out money to upgrade. Not to mention, prior to this semester, the campus computers were all upgraded to WIndows 7. I checked the publishing date on the book and about facepalmed. 2006. I least I didn't get charged for the damn book.

My school uses books written when they still used Windows 98 (around 2005/6 they switched to XP)

[editline]11th January 2011[/editline] Seriously, I skipped like 3 programming classes and I admit I'm a terrible programmer, still better than 90% of the students.

The only book in our school that deals with internet stuff is about 10 years old and refers to ADSL as being a 'New and fast way to access the internet'. Not that I'm saying it can't be, but when it goes on for the previous page how fast your internet can be when you switch to 56 kbps, you know it's old.
