They blocked all the "Windows + Something" key except "Windows + L" at my school for some reason. I can understand why they blocked run but... why block the desktop shortcut :saddowns:
Ours blocked Win + L.
Semi-related (might be a repeat) - my friend had a batch file open that basically opened the same three folders over and over and over and over and over. Our digital photography teacher saw the command prompt window that was open, and ignoring what it was actually doing, was convinced that he was hacking into something and called in the administration.
The next day, he logged in and his wallpaper was replaced with "Active Desktop Recovery" (an error I personally haven't seen since Win98). The teacher is under the impression that it means his account's flagged as a security risk.

standard answer: kill her
Content: In my network admin class, I check newegg, and freak out over the sandy bridge CPU. My friend looks at my screen and says two things:
"Hold on, let me order one, it will replace my current CPU."
and: "Hmmmm... odd... my i7 isn't an intel, it's an Asus."

Actually, a higher clocked Atom dual core and ION2 graphics plays Crysis almost at playable framerate on minimum :science:

You're shitting me.
I need to get into one of these jobs so I can fix every goddamn mistake these incompetent people have made.
FUCK Electrical Engineering, IT needs me! AWAYYYY
My Architecture Teacher is smart, but he acts like an idiot sometimes. He only takes the time to explore the programs made by Autodesk. When I asked him if we could use Blender or Maya, he said he had never heard of them.
Considering Maya is now owned by Autodesk... That's surprising.

Why would you want to use Blender? and autodesk product are industry standard so it's best to get used to them.

* Free
* Runs on Linux and other Master Race operating systems

My Tech computer (Win XP) is stuck on that, Teacher seems to forget every lesson
Also, Our Tech computers are Laughably crap
we use ProEngineer: These are the minimum specs
http://gyazo.com/c9d110187fc0054b6fd670cd824a0774.png
And these are the specs of the Tech comps

Now, you're thinking "Those are all in the minimum amounts, Why are the crap?"
If you use the Revolve tool it will crash
If you use the Axis tool It will crash
If you use IE at the same time with it, It will crash
Just found this.

I told him he could play basic games like Super Meat Boy and Cave Story. He lags on minecraft though.
In Multimedia class last year, for some reason, in the Flash animation section, all we had was Macromedia Flash MX. But for some reason, all the computers also had the Adobe CS4 suite minus Adobe Flash CS4. Why we insisted on not using Adobe Flash CS4, I don't know. Its not like we probably would have taken advantage of any of the newer features anyway, since it was basic flash animation.
Maybe Flash MX ran better on our Pentium 4's with 768 MB of RAM? Still, we still used Photoshop CS4 on those.
Like I said. It's a bit absurd to have a book on XP when the college has Vista/Windows 7.
not really dude, you learn to work in the industry, not your college
your college would probably have Microsoft Virtual PC or some other virtualisation software for learning purposes.

or you can be a college student and get almost all autodesk programs for free

I've tried 3DS Max. Even if it was free (might be, not sure if my college bought it for us), I still prefer Blender. Maybe that's just me.

I wish I could figure out these damn 3d rendering programs. :smith:

Cons
* Hard as fuck to learn the interface without internet help
That's a pretty small con, though, and I've found Blender to be much more intuitive than 3dshit Maxripoff or Maya-pay too much.
(I hate Autodesk, if you didn't catch that)
[editline]11th January 2011[/editline]
POV-Ray is superb for raytracing things. Whenever I used it in my art class to render some "abstract" landscape my teacher complained.
Don't remember it exactly, but the convo went along the lines of "teacher mad, can't understand how you made this, must have cheated." Show him POV-Ray source code, and show it tracing the image. Teacher gives me a D- for "Suspicion of cheating."
This is the same art teacher who said to me WITH A STRAIGHT FACE that Impressionism was never an art movement and any Impressionist art isn't art.

I googled ADR to see what it looked like. I nostalgia'd.

Is there an image of it in English or German? I try searching it and all I get is some other languages and the only English one I found was a dead link.
