CIPWTTKT v9. : Screen punching edition
I once disassembled a laptop that had died. CPU pins were bent, PCI ports were torn of and it was mutilated with wire cutters.
I did spare the ram and the hhd though. But it was probably shitty DDR1 so i threw it away after half a year.

You opened it up and it was like that?
So I was getting mighty sick of using a wireless keyboard since it either works (when the batteries are full) or it completely fucks shit up (when the batteries are almost empty) so I went into town to try and get a new one. Went into the local computer store and saw some nice keyboards. Ran my fingers along them to get a general feel, the noise, size (my hands aren't exactly small). I eventually settled on a lovely Logitech keyboard which felt nice and was quiet too. The sales clerk, seeing me seriously consider it, walks up to me and says:
"If you want high performance, especially in games, silent keyboards are the way to go."
I got the keyboard, walked out the store and burst into laughter when I was outside hearing distance.
I have a "programing" class today, I'm sure I'll have at least one person who'll be content.
Our IT teacher's password was password
I kid you not.
It's so easy it's hard to guess :downs:
Well, I didn't personally punch it, used to belong to a friend
Let me give you a description on how slow it was: The start menu took 10 seconds to fully open
Only ten seconds? I've got a computer sitting next to me that takes 30 seconds to a minute. Then the whole desktop spazzes out.
I have no idea what I did to this thing before it wound up sitting and collecting dust for a few years...
Yeah that was my friend. It was amusing because he had to wear a bandage diaper. It wasn't that he was playing in bed, but that he had blocked the heat vent with his crotch.
Mine has given me a couple minor burns, but nothing too serious. But it's impossible to use if I'm wearing shorts, there has to be something between it and my skin. Also it gets incredibly loud if I am running anything even mildly graphics intensive on Windows. It seems the fan has two settings: Off or VERY ON. It turns on too late and doesn't turn off again until I shut the computer. Someone has to make better drivers for Windows for this thing, Apple didn't do a good job at all.
I don't think Apple really care, if you look at how they made both Quicktime player and iTunes for Windows.

I remember the first time i saw e-ink. I thought it was a sticker on the screen, but then I realized it would've been weird if it said LOW BATTERY! if it was a sticker :v:

I am in my basement, taking apart a really old PC.
It has AMD K6. At 266MHz.(Socket 7, it is a newer release of this CPU)
Two HDD-s, one is 20GB, other 2.16GB.
A floppy drive.
A CD drive..
32MB RAM, 2 sticks., 16 MB each.
A sound card.
Two network cards (no idea why) Edit: One of them is a phone card or something like that. ..
MoBo is ASUS SP97-V (Onboard graphics)
Got it for free from my uncle.
Will post a few pics later, when in my PC, atm on my older PC.
Also, my father got a really nice deal with a monitor. He bought a broken monitor for 16 Euros, 3euros transport to our city and then repaired it for under 1Euro.
It works absolutely fine now.
Is this the right thread?
Didn't find the other one atm. Gonna post to the other thread with pics later.
But still, this thread is H&S general chat too

It really looks fake. After I'd bought my e-book reader (€150, cheapest one I could find) I'd often walk past it, go :raise: and try to peel off the screen.

32MB RAM, 2 sticks. I have no idea how much is each.
There is 32MB RAM total. There are 2 sticks. You do the math.

Oh yeah.. For some reason I thought there could be 1 8MB and other 24MB one.
Nah, those look like same so I guess that is 16MB each..
Me so dumb.

And this is why schools shouldn't use high end Fermi cards in their library/coomputer lab/graphics design lab
:rimshot:
funny thing is that place had a bank of like 30 machines in it, all of which had pentium 4/iii's and 256mb of ram, clogged up by a 5-year-old XP install. Now we have fancy Athlon X2 machines with 2GB of ram
OK, content time. I'm in an "Introduction to Business and Management" class. As our final project, we have to present a business plan, pretty much like we would if we were actually trying to start a business. Naturally, about half the class did video-game-related businesses. A lot of them were... less than good, but one guy stood out:
* Wanted to make an MMORPG
* Wanted to make his own engine for it
* The game content would be entirely user-created - there is no actual "game". I asked him later, he did not know about Second Life.
* Had ludicrous specifications for the engine, including something about "fractal". At the end, I asked some questions, and he was basically describing procedural generation. I told him that, and that the idea is over two decades old, but is rare in modern games because it doesn't give enough detail. I was then cut off by the teacher, who said that "this isn't about the details, this is about the idea". I seriously considered cutting her off and saying "if he can't even express the idea, nobody would be stupid enough to fund him"
* Wanted the engine to be detailed enough that the curvature of the Earth was accounted for
* Wanted the game detailed enough that you could make a nuke from scratch, and have it work
* Specified a job for physicists on the engine team
* Did not specify any jobs for artists or voiceactors
* Budgeted $40,000,000 for the whole thing
* Did not, at any point, mention the platform it would be for
This same guy once argued that astrology was completely accurate. Although he did say "it's not about stars, it's about finding patterns in the universe, man". I wanted to throw him out the window.
For what it's worth, my project was military weapons manufacturer.
