Now that you've installed ubuntu, install Arch.
A few pages back, some people showed broken screens. My dad broke his laptop screen now... Anybody knows how I would be able to use an external monitor with it? It doesn't reqognize it automatically.
Close the lid. Find the LCD panel you need and replace it, too.
It was only open, because I wanted to know how it looks like that... Meh, it is probably going to warranty, or father buys a new LCD panel and replaces it.
Closing the lid should make windows use the external. Start the PC then close it immediately.
your computer is still processing the information. you just can't see it because it is not converting the frames to a viewable format and then transmitting them to your monitor
Actually it's still converting them, you just can't see it. Your GPU isn't some omnipresent being that can tell when a monitor is plugged into it. Should be a screen shaped symbol or something.
It was only open, because I wanted to know how it looks like that... Hold Fn and press that until your external monitor comes on. [editline]20th January 2011[/editline] :ninja:

Haven't laughed this hard for a while.
Also, the story about my fathers broken laptop screen is funny. My sister walked put of her room, only to step in my cats puke. She was scared and screamed. My father didn't understand what is going on, tried to stand up with his laptop on his lap and guess what? Laptop fell into a table. Or onto the corner of a table. And I didn't even know what was happening. I was sleeping then. Meh, Is it cats, sisters or fathers fault? :v:
I found this sitting in a pile of junk, [img_thumb]http://www.pinondeer.com/images/Dell5150_Big.jpg[/img_thumb] should I take it?
You should take all computer related junk
You should take all computer related junk
I want to do this at my local dump some time, but I'm not sure about the laws here [editline]21st January 2011[/editline] Like, build a rendering franken-farm :v:
You should take all computer related junk
Had a look and it was gone, sad face. Plus I would not be able to carry a 5XXX series Dimension a mile home
Tried FN +f4 (Monitor logo or smth) and Windows + P like you said. Didn't work. Tried with VGA and HDMI. Meh, Dad is getting a replacement monitor for 150Euros. That includes changing the screen.
you know it's gonna be totally booted to work right?
When something has to make a stack dump it usually means the programmer did too
So a stack overflow means the toilet clogged?
When you guys say dumps what do you mean?
A dump is the really the dumping of all the data contained in the RAM pertaining to a certain program.
You guys are dumb, they were talking about garbage dumps to get old PCs that have been brought to be recycled.
