People deciding between the One and the S4 by just looking at them. This video is sorta awkward to watch, but the comments on the article are downright painful: http://www.androidcentral.com/galaxy-s4-versus-htc-one-new-york-s-central-park#comment-587271
Might buy the HTC One instead of the Xperia Z. Is it getting a lot of developer attention? I love customizing them phones.
There are 7 ROMs and 5 Kernels and a billion mods for the GSM One already.
Just got my HTC One, and the fact the back is not flat makes it excellent for holding. It remains mostly stable on a flat surface, but it is not as perfect as a phone like the Z or Optimus G would be.
I'm using the Xperia Ion which has a very similar back to the HTC One and now it feels weird to use a device without a curved back. Feels great when you're holding for a good amount of time.
Should I get a Galaxy SIII or Nexus 4 or Xperia V?
Should I get a Galaxy SIII or Nexus 4?
Very subjective question. Personally, I'd get the S3 but I'm sure plenty of users here would suggest otherwise
Should I get a Galaxy SIII or Nexus 4 or Xperia V?
I would go with the S3 just for the expandable memory.
The Xperia V also has expandable memory, and I prefer the smaller screen and design of it. But I'm still leaning slightly towards the S3.
I would go with the S3 just for the expandable memory.
Exactly the reason why I can't even consider any of the other phones. Going from 72GB to 16GB would be hell
Problem with XDA is its so fucking messy, the threads are thousand of pages long. And what's worse, when you try to find a good theme, you have to dig through the tons of horrible reskins, themes that look like it came out of mspaint, and in like 20 different fucking colours to get to the few good ones. And then the xda people always compliment those fuckers with the horrible themes to continue the effort. fuck that.
Exactly the reason why I can't even consider any of the other phones. Going from 72GB to 16GB would be hell
Just curious, what exactly are you storing that's using that 72 GB?
Decided to do some research on the Xperia Z, and as far as I know the screen is gray because of some gamma calibration issue. Some guy on XDA lowered/increased the gamma of the screen and it looked much better (compared to the Xperia Ion).
And then the xda people always compliment those fuckers with the horrible themes to continue the effort. fuck that.
Most of the people on XDA use Comic Sans and chrome filters on everything. Looks like cancer. [editline]25th April 2013[/editline]
Just curious, what exactly are you storing that's using that 72 GB?
Music and disc images. It's always handy to have things like the Windows 7 ISO on your phone that you can boot from via USB. Also lots of ROMs.
Okay I'm pretty stupid with these things, if I were to flash cynanogenmod on my phone will it wipe all my apps?
Should I get a Galaxy SIII or Nexus 4 or Xperia V?
I have the Xperia V and I'm really loving it
Okay I'm pretty stupid with these things, if I were to flash cynanogenmod on my phone will it wipe all my apps?
Good practice is to wipe the data and dalvik cache when you flash a different ROM. So yes you would. Use Titanium Backup to save the apps and app data and restore them after you flash it.
Alright, let's hope I don't brick my phone.

Then there was the guy who used a screen filter app and said all better.
the old tablet status bar and two pane layouts look shit on a phone sorry not sorry
There's a thread with people saying the Z has two different display makers either Sharp or JDI. Then there was the guy who used a screen filter app and said all better.
That's such an Android grade display issue solution. Just distort the colours so they all look more saturated but aren't accurate, and tell yourself it's good. Doesn't work that way. HTC One is the only Android choice for an amazing display. [editline]25th April 2013[/editline] Also the display in the One is from JDI, and the one in the iPad can be Sharp. Both are the pinnacle of their category, so unless Sony is buying budget panels the manufacturer shouldn't be making a difference considering both of them can make top notch screens. Maybe I'm biased but I don't even feel like its worth acknowledging any phone except the HTC One and iPhone 5(and maybe Lumia 920) even exist with regards to top tier phones.
There's a thread with people saying the Z has two different display makers either Sharp or JDI. Then there was the guy who used a screen filter app and said all better.
Didn't some guy on XDA check the hardware information of both an international Z and a japenese one to see if the screens were different? Then, according to the information he found, he found out that both of the models used the same screen. The only difference was the UI.

There could very well be models with JDI panels and Sharp panels, but a good OEM makes sure the variance is almost negligible. Sony may be one of those good OEMs but that'd just mean they made sure they were all equally bland.

uh what cm10.1 is only nightly on the galaxy s3 apparently it wouldn't be THAT buggy if I flashed it on my phone now would it?
uh what cm10.1 is only nightly on the galaxy s3 apparently it wouldn't be THAT buggy if I flashed it on my phone now would it?
Nightlies only for Exynos devices. It's not buggy from a user point of view, but the code is a mess due to lack of Exynos source code, so the CM team decided not to release anything else but nightlies. Not sure if it would make it less waterproof though.

So I haven't used a custom ROM since I lost my Galaxy S2 back in november so I've been running non-rooted stock jelly bean ROM on my Galaxy s3 4G. I'm thinking about rooting it but the only reason I would even do it right now is if I could somehow get better batterylife. Battery is decent sometimes, going from 100% to 96% in an hour only using poweramp and sending a few texts while on way to school (takes about an hour) but sometimes with the same apps it takes 100% to 85% (Today for example) So all I'm really interested in is if I can get better battery life with a custom rom and root. Last ROM i used on my S2 was CM10 I think.
That's such an Android grade display issue solution. Just distort the colours so they all look more saturated but aren't accurate, and tell yourself it's good. Some people on XDA have common sense and then there's people thinking an app fixes everything. There were also people trying to port the ZL "calibration" app to the Z, in hopes of making it less washed out. Other than that there is just random AOSP stuff and regular arguments in the Z subforum.
I'm considering upgrading my Galaxy S Fascinate soon on Verizon. Is the GS3 a good phone for $100? ($100 is all I'm willing to pay.) My priorities are decent speed for web browsing on the go, a large battery so that I can tether it to my Nexus 7 for decently long periods, and a camera good enough for me to take some quick pics of documents on the go. I don't need a powerhouse here, just something cheap and reliable.
