I just installed a new hard drive and needed to move my Windows installation. So I backed everything up, formatted everything, and reinstalled.
Everything has been relatively pain free until I go to install the drivers for my 470GTX. After a few seconds, I simply get this: http://i1002.photobucket.com/albums/af146/Zarrendragon/random%20images/nvidiafailedinstall.jpg
Sometimes the resolution will flip around before it states it has failed.
I have tried searching the web, but I cannot find anything related to this particular problem. This is a fresh install so there are no previous drivers that could be causing issues. In fact, windows is using a 'generic graphics driver' currently.
I have also downloaded older drivers with the same result.
Any ideas?
Perhaps you're downloading the wrong drivers? Open STEAM and right click on the upper-left, tab, "STEAM" and tab down to "Check for Video Driver updates..." and it should find the ones you need automatically.

Actually I figured it out, especially since i couldn't install Steam either!
I seem to be one of the unlucky few to have a glitch Windows 7 HP install. The default administrator user that is created upon install does not have administrator rights in my case. With the conflicting settings, programs crash with odd errors.
The only solution i have found is to just immediately create a second user with admin rights and use that instead. Everything works fine then.

I guess I should change this into a 'Cannot install Steam' thread.
Everything is installing just fine, except for steam. When i run the installer i get a message stating that the file is not a valid installation package.
I'm hoping you've re-downloaded steam.

I have tried downloading it many times and each one is 'an invalid installer package'.
