I'd just say "well fuck...looks like I was wrong" and get on with life.
Though know that I think about it, I guess it might be possible for something other than binary to be used, but it wouldn't be with current electronics surely. Quantum/Organic computing maybe?

To further elaborate, binary is the language of digital signal. You could have an analog computer(which uses the range between 0 and 1). But you then have to worry about emi, degradation and all that. Analog pretty much sucks in every aspect when it comes to computers. With digital the data either gets there or it doesn't. With analog, some may get there, some may not, some may get shifted up or down, and how can you make accurate computations when you never know what you are going to get.
To be fair there can be bit errors but that is so rare it's of no concern.

Next [B]really big[/B] thing will probably be virtual reality, and at the begginning it will most probably be just a room since we won't have enough processing power to calculate more, but if I could have such a room that felt real but wasn't I'd pass a lot of time there. Think of the Neo vs Morpheus duel, just that you wouldn't be harmed in real life, it would be fun as hell to fight (literally) against your friends or have a tournament against your class.
Once such a thing is invented it wouldn't take long for porn "simulations" (games would not be the correct term anymore) to come out (and whomever developed it would be showered with money, afterall who would pass up on the possiblity of having a threesome with any celebrity of their choice?).

I predict new gate technology to appear and make PCs faster, more efficient, and cheaper to produce and maintain. Maybe not the next leap, but it will come. For example, I think we will soon see processors that use photons rather than electrons to represent data, and this would make state switching cleaner, more reliable, far faster, and will generate no heat, so say goodbye to expensive air-conditioned server rooms and loud fans.
The hip-top PC:
a computer hooked onto your belt the size of a 2.5" harddrive. Special glassses give you the LCD, headphones, and mic. all audio is bluetooth enabled. maybe video someday too. Wireless video would rock on a PC

the only thing linux is missing is compatability. I don't see why hell would have to freeze over to accomplish that.
Memristor technology. Basically a chip that remember electrical states, even when turned off. Once it catches on, the advancements will be huge.
